Obituary of Anna Ward

WARD - Anna Ward was born in Nove Sove, Yugoslavia on January 6, 1922. She was the daughter of Anna and Michael Heintz, and a sister to Joseph. At age eight, Anna and her family moved to Canada, settling in Yorkton, where Michael set up his own tailor shop. Anna attended Simpson and Victoria Schools from grades one to eight, then the Yorkton Collegiate Institute where she finished grade 12. Anna had a happy childhood and especially enjoyed playing the violin. She was a member of the Yorkton Orchestra and was asked to join Professor George's Orchestra, where she played second violin, quite an honor at the time. After graduation Anna was hired by International Harvester as a stenographer. There she met her future husband, Joseph Ward, an accountant. The couple were married in November of 1947. They then moved to Saskatoon. Only six months after they were married, Joseph passed away suddenly. After Joe's passing Anna moved to Calgary and began working for Shell Canada. When her mother had a stroke Anna moved back to Yorkton to care for her aging parents. She found employment at York Auto, working for Keith Harper. She worked at York Auto until her retirement. Anna loved doing handi-work, a skill passed on from her parents. She made many different crafts as well as sewing, crocheting, tatting and painting. She sewed dolls and crocheted many small angels. Anna also enjoyed travelling, she had spent a month in Hawaii one year and had enjoyed every moment. In April of 2005 Anna moved to make her home at the Bentley. She enjoyed her time there until becoming a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home in November of 2012. Anna passed away on Saturday, June 25th 2016. She was 94 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Joseph, her parents Michael and Anna Heintz, her sister-in-law Vera and her brother Joe Heintz. She will be sadly missed by her niece Debbie, her great nephew Jamie and his son Paxton, her great niece Tara (Todd) and their daughter Brynlee, nephew-in-law Roger and cousins in B.C. and Germany. The interment took place on Thursday, June 30th at the Yorkton City Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Crystal Bailey, B.Th. officiated. Memorials were to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home Home.
