Obituary of Rose Sass

SASS - Mrs. Rose Sass of Yorkton, beloved mother of Raymond (Donna) Sass and Lorraine (Mike) Heck was called to eternal rest at the age of 84. Rose is survived by 3 grandchildren, Nolan Sass, Trista Sass, and Brandon Heck as well as 7 great grandchildren. Rose was pre deceased by her husband Pete in May 2012, her parents John and Katherine, brothers William, John, Mike, Peter, Fred and sisters Katie, Nettie, Mary, Eva and Julie and is survived by her brother Joe. On October 25, 1953 she was united in marriage to Pete Sass. In 1955 they moved to a farm near Beaverdale area better known as the Lees farm. Their son Raymond was born in 1955 followed by the birth of a daughter Lorraine in 1959. The family endured the tough times without the modern conveniences and impassible roads until 1960 when Pete and Rose purchased land in the Fenwood area. Pete and Rose made many upgrades to the house and farm and remained on the farm until their retirement in 1994. At that time they purchased their dream home in Yorkton and enjoyed the regular retirement income which differed from the unpredictable farm income. They enjoyed their retirement lifestyle visiting many relatives, playing cards, drives in the country and meals out at Melrose Place, Grumpy's and KFC better known as "Chicken". Rose could always be remembered for her hospitality as anyone that visited was always treated to food varying from homemade baking to a full meal at short notice. Throughout the years at the farm she would have two large freezers full of food as well as a large garden that she would share with her children. Rose could be counted upon to assist in any family function especially in bringing food. Within her busy life on the farm Rose found time to instill importance of family traditions and values. Rose enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables as well as listening to country music on CJGX. Rose ensured her children and family would not go hungry by providing a continuous supply of perogies and head cheese. In May 2011 due to declining health Rose was separated from her beloved Pete to be united later that year at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. Rose remained a resident of the home until her passing. The family would like to thank the staff of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home especially the Skinner Unit for their compassionate and professional care of Rose throughout her life at the home. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Yorkton Memorial Garden Family Centre Very Rev. Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating.
