Obituary of Isaac "Ike" Martin

MARTIN - Mr. Isaac "Ike" Martin of Ituna passed away on April 5, 2016 at the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre. He was 81 years of age. Isaac was born on the family farm in the Ituna district, a son of Isaac and Sylvia (Halliday) Martin. He received his education at Stanisloff School and later worked on the farm with his Dad and brothers and raised Hereford cattle. Isaac retired from farming and purchased a house in Ituna with Evelyn, the love of his life. Isaac taught himself to play the accordion and guitar. He loved Country, Western and Old Time music and also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ike always said no one was to phone after 9 pm as it was bedtime and everyone was to be in their "NEST". He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, wife Evelyn, stepson Brian and step granddaughter Jaimie; sisters Sarah Burns, Margaret Wilson, Ann (Ray) Burns, Sylvia (Bill) Exley; brother Bob (Elaine), along with numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Brian Mee of Lakeside United Church officiating. The organist, Cathy Bailey accompanied the song leader, Len Varga in the singing of the hymns, "In The Garden ", "Just As I Am"' "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Whispering Hope". A musical tribute was provided by Len Gadica and Garry Laycock. The ushers were Bill and Bernie Bereziuk. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Everyone in Attendance. The interment took place in Ituna Town Cemetery with Lyle Burns, Allan Burns, Shirley Kostal, Mike Bereziuk, Kelly Exley and Fred Wilson serving as the casket bearers.
