Obituary of Peter Antoneshyn

ANTONESHYN - Mr. Peter Antoneshyn, beloved husband of Agnes of Kelliher, passed away on Wednesday, March 16th 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville. He was 93 years of age. Peter Antoneshyn was born on September 10, 1922, north of Stenen, SK, to Stanley and Femme Antoneshyn (Wozney) and was one of 15 children. In 1927 his parents moved to a farm north of Kelliher in the New Haven district. Peter attended New Haven School from the age of 7 to 15, at which age he stayed home to help on the farm. In 1939 he was part of a three-man threshing crew who went to work north of Semans. In 1942 Peter rented a half-section of land from the Soldier Settlement Board on a crop-share basis, which he then purchased in 1945. In 1949 Peter and his sister Katie headed east to Ontario. That winter Peter worked in a General Motors factory in St. Catharines. He returned home to the farm in the spring of 1950. In 1951 Peter met Agnes (Ottenbriet), who was a teacher at the New Haven School. After a brief courtship they were married on October 4, 1952, and have enjoyed life together for the past 63 years. They were blessed with two children, Deborah (b. 1955) and Dale (b. 1958). Peter enjoyed working in his shop, building and repairing machinery and working on his favourite tractor, his Cockshutt 30. In 1986 Peter was working in his shop when a grinding wheel flew apart, blinding him in one eye and doing some damage to the bone and nerves in his left cheek. This may have slowed him down for a bit but didn't stop him. He actively farmed until Dale took over the farm in 1991, but Peter was still out at the farm every day helping however he could. In 2009 Peter suffered a stroke. He spent time in the Regina General Hospital and then in rehab in the Wascana Hospital. He made a full recovery, showing everyone his strength and determination. Peter was a guy that would always help anyone who needed a hand and loved to spend time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peter leaves to mourn his wife Agnes of Kelliher; daughter Deborah (Donald) Goebel of Neudorf; grandchildren Tyler Goebel (Andrea Ehrmantraut) of Regina, Courtney (Devon) Blenkiron of Coaldale, AB, Callie (Dan) Gardiner of Shilo, MB, Ashleigh Antoneshyn of Winnipeg, MB, and Shelby Antoneshyn of Thompson, MB, great-grandchildren Austin and Blaire Blenkiron and Bohdan and Bronson Gardiner, along with many nieces, nephews and relatives.
