Obituary of Samuel "Sam" Hickie

Samuel James Hickie was born on April 27, 1966 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville, a son to George and Mary (nee Letwinetz) Hickie. Sam as he was known to all received his education at Grayson and Melville School's as well helped his parents on the family farm. When his parents moved into Melville Sam continued to farm with his brothers Ernest and James. Sam took an active roll in the farming aspect and was his dad's main fencing "left hand-man" put old staples out and pounding new ones in as well opening gates for his dad and loved to help around the cattle. When the farm work was done you would find Sam weeding and hoeing in the garden. Sam had other interest in fastball, even that he did not play much he made sure everything was up to par, bats and balls were out and picked up and making sure the bases were put out. Sam loved competing in sports and bowling tournaments going to Grayson sports days and keeping score. Sam enjoyed being first base coach, watching wrestling, even when wresting came to Melville he lost his ticket and Jim gave his ticket to have his picture taken with the women wrestlers. He looked forward to ringing the church bell at St. Mary's for Sunday services. Sam's most important thing in life was family, especially his nieces and nephews. Sam entered his eternal rest after a brief illness on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina with his family at his side at the young age of 49 years. Predeceased by his brother, Billy at the age of seven; his grandparents, Mike (Katherine) Hickie and John (Anne) Letwinetz; nephew, Dustin Hickie as well as various aunts and uncles. Sam's smile and jolly sense of humor will be remembered by his loving parents, George and Mary Hickie of Melville; his siblings, Michael (Jacqueline) of Melville, Tim (Denise) of Morris, MB, David of Estevan, Ernie of Waldron, Christopher (Rhonda) of Yorkton, Jim of Waldron, George Jr. (Robin) of Winnipeg, Anna (Kip) Boyechko of Ottawa, John (Bonnie) of Moose Jaw, and Laurie (Colin) Hickie-Hartl of Lintlaw; his aunt's and uncle's, Ruth Molnar, John Hickie, Eddie Hickie and Sam (Helen) Letwinetz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends. Saturday, February 13th, 2016 10:00am, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church Details: Service Extra Info Rev. Father Mieczyslaw (Mitch) Burdzy will celebrate the Funeral Mass.
