Obituary of Mary Smycniuk

Mary Smycniuk (Buchko), beloved widow of Harry Smycniuk, passed away peacefully on Monday January 25th, 2016 at the Regina General Hospital, at the age of 89 years. Aunt Mary was born on August 20th, 1926 in Grindrod, British Columbia, while in transit during her family's move to Saskatchewan. She received her education at St. Ann's Separate School and the Public School in Ituna, where her parents settled and raised their family. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and devoted to her Catholic faith. From a young age, Aunt Mary learned the important role the Church would play in her life, along with the importance of faith and family which was a value her mother and father instilled in all their children. As a young lady she taught Catechism with her sister Pearl and cousin Mary Fedor in the Ukrainian Catholic Parishes in Ituna, Hubbard, Goodeve, Fenwood, Kelliher, Leross, Beckenham, Churchill, and Molesky District. Aunt Mary was a member of the Sacred Heart UCWL and the Sacred Heart Parish Choir. It is with fondness we remember Aunt Mary and Aunt Olga singing "B
