Obituary of Phillip Langan

LANGAN - Mr. Philip Langan of Yorkton, husband of the late Evelyn Langan passed away peacefully on December 30th at his home surrounded by his family. He was 80 years of age. Philip Langan Sr. was born September 16, 1935 at Boggy Creek, Manitoba to Pat and Cecille (nee Lafontaine) Langan. The family later moved to the Crescent Lake settlement near Yorkton, SK and soon after relocated to Yorkton. In his younger years, Philip worked as a farm hand and construction worker in the Yorkton district. One of the many interesting projects he worked on was the construction of the Yorkton Hospital tunnels. He spoke of manually wheel-barrowing the concrete as being labor intense but said, "I never thought of it as hard work, it just needed to be done". Philip married the love of his life, Evelyn Paul of Boggy Creek, MB on April 24, 1957. Together they loved and raised eight children, six boys and two girls. In 1967 Philip upgraded his education and moved his family to Regina where he was employed with the Provincial Government as a printer for approximately 30 years until his retirement. Philip is predeceased by his wife Evelyn (nee Paul) Langan, his parents Pat & Cecille Langan, his sons Earl Sr. and Landry, grandsons Landon and Maddox; brothers Claude and Lawrence; sisters Laura, Annie and Martha; parents-in-law George & Marie Paul; brothers-in-law Steve Paul, Clifford Paul, George Paul Jr., Alex Allary, Paul Gauvin, Lyman Allary and Steve Gall; sister-in-law Velma Allary and many other friends and relatives. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ron (Velma), Dennis (Darlene), Sharon Langan, Philip Langan, Maryann (Owen), all of Yorkton and Dallas (Sabrina) of Birdtail, MB; numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and good friends. Philip had an amazing sense of humour, a strong work ethic and persevered through many of life's struggles. A Prayer Vigil was held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Yorkton Friendship Centre. The Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Fr. Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The organist, Sandra Archer led members of St. Gerard's Choir in the singing of the hymns, Morning Has Broken, Psalm 33, Peace is Flowing Like a River, On Eagle's Wings, May Flights of Angels and Amazing Grace. The readings were given by Shariann Gust and Sharon Langan. The honourary pallbearers were Gerry Lafferty, Philip Fisherman Gust, Lennis Paul, Brian Paul, Gabrielle Langan and Jeff (Big Mac) Langan. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Kenny Pritchard, Clayton Langan, Teresa Ennis, Donavin Langan, Sydney Peepeetch and Derek Langan serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Philip's life may be made to the Dialysis Department at Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
