Obituary of Walter Shevernoha
SHEVERNOHA - Walter Shevernoha beloved husband of Natalie Shevernoa of Ituna. It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the loss of Walter Shevernoha, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Walter passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in the early hours of Thursday December 17, 2015 while in the Intensive Care Unit in Yorkton General Hospital at the age of 79 years. Walter was born at White Beech Saskatchewan on August 8, 1936 a son of Joe and Carol (nee Ewachewski) Shevernoha. He attended school at Border Road. At the age of 9, his family moved to Pelly where he completed his education. He was employed at the Coop Creamery where over 25 years of service he spent time in Canora, Swift Current and then the head office in Regina. He quickly worked his way up to Office Manager. During his early years at the Dairy he met the love of his life, Natalie (Patron) from Ituna, Saskatchewan. They were married in Yorkton Saskatchewan on September 22nd 1962. They were blessed with three children; Ray, Denise and Rick. In 1975 Walter left his job at the Dairy to pursue his dream of becoming his own boss. For 27 years Walter, Natalie and the children served the town of Ituna providing Gas, Groceries, Lottery and Convenience items, usually working 6 days every week from sunrise to sunset. Then on his day off Walter would travel to Yorkton to pick up groceries to restock the shelves. Time and time again Walter would open up the store to help someone who desperately needed fuel. Walter was predeceased by his infant brother, Vladimir, his parents, Joe and Carol, sister, Sophie Sernowski and brother-in-law Bill Sernowski. He is survived by his loving wife, Natalie of 52 years; three children, Ray and (Sandi) Shevernoha of Wakaw, Denise Smysniuk of Ituna, Rick and (Denise Flower) Shevernoha of Delta BC; five grandchildren, Delon, Chase, Levi, Cruz and Cypress; sister, Geraldine as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Walter's treasures were his grandchildren. He would travel the province and could often be seen sitting in the stands or standing on the sidelines of whatever sporting event was in season. He was always up for a fishing trip and more often than not the stories were better than the fishing. He was the local taxi for all the Auntie's road trips. He took tremendous pride in his park-like yard. If you ever came to visit you were guaranteed a friendly welcome, warm hospitality and a tour of the yard with updates on what variation of tomatoes or potatoes he was trying to grow. Then you would get the latest report on how the squirrels were getting into the bird feeders. He often laughed at how he was a minority owner of the Riders and he loved to watch and talk football. And anyone who has been at his house is sure to have heard those famous words …. "Come on, Have a Beer" Walter or as he was better known, "Wally", was a very hospitable, humble, religious and kind person. He easily found humour in everyday events, always kept the mood light, and kept us giggling throughout each and every day. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. We the family feel, extremely grateful and blessed for our life and memories with him. Vichnaya Pamyat! - Eternal Memory!
