Obituary of William "Bill" Kotyk

KOTYK - William ‘Bill' Kotyk beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Kotyk of Yorkton, formerly of the White Beech and Swan River districts passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home after his battle with cancer at the age of 91. Bill was born on August 1 1924 at White Beech, Saskatchewan. Bill was the fourth child of six children born to Tom and Annie (nee Prokopowich) Kotyk. Bill was raised on the family farm in White Beech, Sask. He attended Builth School and as a young man spent several years working in Welland, Ontario. He then returned to Saskatchewan working at several jobs related to farming, pioneering the land, logging and sawmilling. He settled in Saskatchewan to live out the rest of his life adventures. Bill married Mary Todosichuk at Endeavor, Sask. on October 27, 1945. They began their 70 years of marriage together in White Beech, Sask. and raised a family of six children. Bill was a self employed businessman, who owned and operated several businesses in his working life; these businesses included trucking, grocery and gas/convenience, farming, logging and sawmilling. Bill settled into both farming in the White Beech district of Saskatchewan in the summer/winter and logging and sawmilling east of Carrot River, Saskatchewan in the winter/spring seasons. He closed his sawmill business in 1975 and continued to farm until the year 2000 when he and Mary retired together and moved to Yorkton, Sask. In his leisure time Bill loved to fish and he loved to travel. Many times the two of these were combined and he would travel to go fishing. Bill also enjoyed the company of his family, friends and relatives. Bill passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 after his battle with cancer at the age of 91. He was residing in the Morris House wing of the Sunrise Health Region in Yorkton, Sask. Bill was predeceased by two of his children, daughter Sharon Evashenko (1989) and son Donald Kotyk (2008) as well as three siblings, John, Nick and Nell. Bill is survived by his wife Mary, four daughters; Judy (Morris), Audrey (Larry), Joyce and Brenda (Greg); fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; his brother Mike and sister Olga; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. WTP A family funeral service was held at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, B.Th. Certified Celebrant officiating. A tribute and words of remembrance was given by Bonnie Hughes. Grandson, Marc Lebo served as the urn bearer. Interment will take place in the White Beech district.
