Obituary of Sophie Madarash
Sophie Madarash (Hadubiak), beloved wife of the late Mike Madarash, entered eternal life at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Sunday, November 22 at the age of 83 years. Sophie was born on February 6, 1932 to Peter and Kathrine Hadubiak (Malowany). She grew up on the farm and attended Monastyr School. Sophie grew up in a family with four other siblings and being the oldest she took on many responsibilities of looking after the younger brothers, working on the farm and helping her parents. On July 17, 1950, Sophie married Mike Madarash of Buchanan, a marriage which lasted 55 years until Mike's passing in May of 2005. Sophie and Mike farmed northwest of Buchanan in the Olesha district, raising grain, livestock, chickens, having a huge garden and in the meantime, raising seven children and looking after Mike's elderly parents. Sophie, along with husband Mike, made the big move to the big City of Yorkton in December 1974. Sophie worked at various jobs, but the one she cherished the most was working for the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate until her retirement. Sophie was an avid gardener and took pride in her garden and especially her beautiful flowers. She loved family gatherings and preparing meals, especially at Christmas and Easter. The grandchildren loved eating her cinnamon buns. Mom took every opportunity to travel. She and dad travelled to Toronto and St. Paul, Minnesota to attend their granddaughter's graduation from law school. After Mike passed, she continued traveling with her children to Vermillion Bay, Banff and a few more trips to Toronto. Sophie was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. She volunteered her time at funerals and must have pinched a million perogies. She washed and ironed the purificators for the fathers at St. Mary's. She was a true people person who loved to socialize and play her troika games with family and friends, and most recently all her new friends at Queen Elizabeth Court. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Mike, her parents Peter and Kathrine Hadubiak, her 2 brothers Terry and Lawrence Hadubiak, 1 infant son Danny, grandson Ryan Korchynski, as well as her in-laws John and Annie Madarash. Sophie will lovingly be remembered by her daughters: Darlene of Winnipeg and her children Matthew and Alicia (Emad); daughter Lucille (Gilles) of Winnipeg and their children Evan (Carleigh) and Corey; daughter Linda (Carl) of Regina and their son Curtis (fiancée Sarah); daughter Julie (Tom) of Yorkton and their sons Stephen and Julian; daughter Connie of Yorkton and her daughter Stephanie. Sophie has two sons, Richard of Yorkton and Russell (Carol) of Regina and their children Amy (Brandon), Tara (Mike) and Travis. She is also survived by four great grandsons and by sister in law Lynda Hadubiak of Burlington, brothers Eddie (Barbara) of Wasaga Beach, and Orest (Eleanor) of Regina. Sophie is also survived by numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, special neighbours and friends.
