Obituary of Joseph Anthony Broda
Joseph Anthony Broda It is with great sadness that we share the news of Joe's passing peacefully in his 89th year following a brief illness. Born and raised in the Killaly area, Joe attended Wymer School before working on the farm. He was an avid ball player and was part of the "Hungry 12" baseball team. On November 9, 1948, Joe married the love of his life, Theresa Ludwar and they started farming in the Killaly area. In 1955 they moved to Melville where Joe worked at Steelman Gas and then CN where he retired in the mid eighties. In the early 60's Joe and his family worked at clearing a lot and building a cottage at Crooked Lake which became the hub of activity for the family. An avid golfer, Joe and Theresa were longtime members of the Last Oak Golf Course. He took a great deal of pride in his family and enjoyed many celebrations and family gatherings at their cottage over the years. Joe was well known for his story telling, bomb fires, boatrides and spending time with his grandchildren. Over his life time he developed a real passion for animals and was always willing and eager to take in a stray cat or dog. Joe loved to tell jokes and loved his sports, both participating and watching the Millionaires Hockey, Toronto Maple Leafs and his Blue Jays. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones and friends who celebrate the fact he is at peace with his creator.
