Obituary of Donald "Donnie" Ostafie
OSTAFIE - Donald Peter Ostafie of Yorkton, beloved husband of Janet Ostafie passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Donald was born on December 6, 1962 to Walter and Nellie (nee Halushka) Ostafie. He met the love of his life in 1989 where both were working at "Nikki's" Restaurant. They were a great team together in the hospitality industry and had a special connection with each other. He was a great chef which led to his venture to operate his own restaurant in Springside where Janet helped him out. Donnie married Janet July 11, 1992 and they were blessed with two wonderful sons: Dalton in 1998 and Remington in 1999. If there was ever a cliché of "Jack of all Trades" Donnie was the prime example - he loved carpentry, jeeping, fishing, hunting, sausage/jerky making, cooking, volunteering and playing pool. He was a great host. He was the absolute best at whatever he did. Donnie was predeceased by his parents Walter and Nellie Ostafie, sister Mae Kitsch and niece Amy Ostafie. He is survived by his loving wife Janet; three sons, Dylan (Amber), Dalton (Kaylyn) and Remington (Shaylee); two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Haley; his three sisters, Francis Ripa, Marlene Anstey (Don) and Doreen Kryski; one brother, Tony Ostafie; his mother and father in law, Theresa and James Rushka; brothers in law; David Rushka and Aron Rushka (Stephanie); sisters in law, Dawn Lutz (Kevin) and Colette (Ian) Turberfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayer Vigil was held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, October 16, 2015 both from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. Lorne Tarr served as the crossbearer. Pianist, Lorraine Lysak with members of the parish choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns: Though the Mountains May Fall, Psalm 40, Before the Sun Burned Bright, This Alone, Song of the Angels and How Great Thou Art. Doreen Kryski, Kennedy Lutz and Shaylee Valuck served as Lectors. Theresa Rushka read the Prayers of the Faithful. Dawn Lutz and family served as the giftbearers. Interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorials in memory of Donnie may be made to The Health Foundation for the CT Scanner fund or to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre as gifts of remembrance.
