Obituary of Gudrun Ward

WARD - Gudrun Adalheidur (nee Laxdal) Ward beloved wife of Henry (Ted) Ward passed away peacefully, October 5, 2015 at the Yorkton Regional Hospital at the age of 81 years. Born August 29, 1934 to Jon Ingvar Laxdal and Ingvaldur Laxdal at the family farm near Churchbridge, Sk. She attended school till grade 8 and in later years went back and got her G.E.D. for grade 12. Gunna married Alex Rogerson and they had 2 sons, Robert & Kenneth. On March 20, 2010 she married Ted Ward who shared her Love of Christ and spent their golden years together. Gunna was born again in 1956 and that experience was the guiding point for the rest of her life. She enjoyed a trip to Iceland - the home of her ancestors. Also trips to Israel, Brazil to Zambia and the U.S.A. - Mexican border doing mission work. During this time she was fortunate to meet Mary who became a dear friend and sister on Christ and a continuing strength and guide for her as a young Christian and stayed as a dear friend for the rest of her life. She spent 40 years as the church secretary at the Free Pentecostal Church in Yorkton. She worked for 28 years, 10 months as central supply assistant at the Yorkton Union Hospital. After retiring she was able to enjoy knitting, crocheting, sewing and keeping her home, she also now had more time for the church and doing the work of Christ. She was predeceased by her parents Jon and Inga Laxdal. Her son Kenneth, brother Cecil and sister-in-law Ruby & brother-in-law Art. She leaves to mourn her son Robert, sisters Sina and Kelly and brother-in-law John. Her good friend Mary and the love of her golden years Ted Ward. Along with many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in Christ. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Captains Glen and Rosanne Fraser of the Salvation Army Yorkton officiating. A reading and tribute was given by friend, Rev. Mary Davis Patrick of the Shiloh Assembly Church in Regina. Organist, Shirley Chernowka led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, Amazing Grace, In The Garden and Near the Cross. Honourary Bearers were Betty-ann Olm, Colleen Bot, Rosemary Laxdal, Melissa Sherstabitoff, Wilma Brick, Maxine Laxdal and Sandy Kraemer serving as the casketbearers. Interment followed in the Bangor Town Cemetery with Dan Laxdal, Shay Lynn Fofonoff, Trevor Fofonoff, Corey Schmidt, Bryce Fofonoff and Terris Kraemer serving as casketbearers. Memorials in memory of Gudrun may be made to the Salvation Army as gifts of remembrance.
