Obituary
Obituary of Douglas Joseph Parislau
Douglas "Doug" Parislau was born on August 27, 1941 in Grayson, Saskatchewan, a son to Sebastian and Elizabeth (nee Lesko) Parislau. Doug grew up and received his education in Grayson. His lifelong love affair with the grocery business began while he worked at Grayson's grocery store while attending high school. In 1962, Doug was united in marriage to Corine Desrosiers in Grayson. Together they took over responsibility of operating the store. In 1980, they built a new store that was Doug's pride, joy, and passion. Doug took pride in his work and his reputation as a small business owner in a community that he loved. Doug touched many lives in his involvement with hockey, the Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, and the rink board. Faith was an integral part of Doug's life as was evident in his role as Liturgy and finance chair-couple on the Parish Council. He also was an active Lay Minister at St. Mary's Church and conducted many prayer services. In his role as Mayor of Grayson, he was a strong advocate for the establishment of the Twilight Home, new fire hall and truck. He also helped to establish the Hospice St. Maria Bernard in Grayson. Doug and Corine balanced work with raising five children. They instilled in them their strong values of faith, friendship, and hard work. These core values were, in turn, passed on to Doug's grandchildren who fondly remember Sunday brunches, hockey game intermission pep talks, long Sunday drives and impressive Christmas feasts. Nothing was too much for "Grandpa Doug." Sadly after 37 years of marriage Corine suddenly passed away on August 10, 2000. In his retirement, Doug enjoyed travelling, gardening, and cooking with his special neighbour. He had an appreciation for the good things in life and could be picked out in a crowd by his infectious laugh. His great-grandchildren quickly learned that "Great Papa" always had jumbo boxes of Smarties and it was wise to suck up to him. He was easy to love and they certainly did love him. At the age of 74, Doug entered his eternal rest after a short, courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 21st, 2015 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina with his loved ones by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his five children; Laurie (Tony) Broda, their children, Quinn (Krista) and their sons, Benson and Harrison, Brittany (Jeff) and their daughters Avery and Anika, Taylor (friend Jamie); Darren (Shaun) Parislau and their son Steven; Shauna (Troy) Rusnak and their sons Blayke and Bryden; Shantel (Gordon) Jakubowski and their son Hunter; Tyrone (Tara) Parislau; brother, Dennis (Corrine) Parislau; companion, Maxine Ottenbreit and too many "Suzies" to count. He was predeceased by his wife, Corine; parents, Sebastian and Elizabeth; grandson, Spencer Jakubowski in infancy; brother, Wilfred in infancy. Service Information
