Obituary of Alvin Casper Mayer

Alvin Casper Mayer, age 70, of Melville formerly from Grayson, SK, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on July 17, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville. Alvin, one of 8 children, was born to Peter and Annie Mayer (nee Lipinski) on December 9, 1944, on the family farm near Grayson. As a child, Alvin attended Flegel School and helped his father on the farm. Alvin married the love of his life, Elsie Duryba, in 1968. The couple farmed in the Grayson area where they raised three children: Crystal, Travis and Trent, and later welcomed three grandchildren, Rhyan, Rayden and Hanna. Alvin farmed for 20 years and also worked for Majestic Pipeline for several years. In the 80's, Alvin worked for the RM of Grayson as a Grader Operator until his retirement. Some of Alvin's favorite past times were ice fishing and hunting. In his spare time he could be found in his shop, building or fixing things for himself or his sons. In his 50's, with the assistance of Travis and Trent, he mastered the art of using a computer, which he enjoyed very much, even buying and selling items. Alvin was known for his gentle nature, kind heart and warm smile. Alvin enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and socializing with neighbours. Alvin will forever be remembered by his devoted wife, Elsie; their sons Travis (Julie) and their children Rhyan and Rayden; Trent (Regan) and their daughter Hanna. Alvin also leaves his siblings Elizabeth (Jack) Zimmer, Aileen Zimmer, Marlene (Paul) Wormsbecker, Janet Hoedel; and in laws Marian Mayer, Ann (Gordon) Schill, George (Ruth) Duryba, John (Bettyanne) Duryba, Rose (Lloyd) Virag, Clara (Bev) Morten; and many nieces, nephews and friends who were blessed to know him.
