Obituary of Doris Haacke

Doris Haacke, long time resident of Yorkton, passed away on Thursday, the 16th of July. Born in 1921, Doris grew up on the original family farm near Beaverdale, Saskatchewan. As a young woman she enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Winnipeg where she trained and worked as a stenographer and bookkeeper. After the war, Doris met and married William Haacke, a rural Saskatchewan school teacher. They raised their young family while living at Silver Willow School and later at Crossroads School. In 1962, the family moved into Yorkton where Doris embarked on a long career as office manager at the Northeastern Seed Company. This position suited her well as it enabled her to work with friends both new and old. Being a people person, Doris enjoyed her association over the years with the Legion at Springside, the Threshermen Festival, and various square dance and Senior's groups. When not busy with these various groups or offering up her time volunteering with the Alzheimer's Society, Doris loved to garden. The only thing she enjoyed more than the gardening itself was sharing the fruits of her labours with friends and family. Fortunately, she was able to enjoy this passion up until the time she took up residence at the Bentley Retirement Home in 2009 and later in Aspen Bluffs Villa. Doris was a good friend to all who knew her, but especially to those who referred to her affectionately as Gramma Doris. She had a way of convincing each one of them that they were her favourite. Even in her final days, as the world around her was becoming less, she always had a huge smile for her great grandsons. One can leave no greater legacy than that. Left to mourn her passing are her son, Robert (Margaret Stecyk) Haacke of Yorkton, grandson Geoffrey (Kathy) Haacke with great grandsons David and Micah of Cold Lake, AB as well as Christopher Haacke of Yorkton. Her daughter Bernie (Robert) Moore of Nelson, BC, granddaughter Leya Moore of Regina and grandson Evan (Jennifer Buell) Moore of North Bay, ON. Her youngest son Kelvin (Bernita) Haacke of Calgary, granddaughter Jenaya Haacke and grandson, Ryan Haacke. Also left with fond memories are her nieces as well as her extended family of grandchildren, Brian Haacke, Colin Anderson, Graham Anderson, Glen Clouston, Gail (Clouston) Clow, and their families. Doris was predeceased by her husband William Haacke and her later-in-life companion, John Lambe. She was also predeceased by her brothers Walter (Edna) Foulds, Arthur Foulds, and Harold Foulds as well as a sister Muriel who died in infancy. Gone before her are her stepson Warren Haacke, and stepdaughters Shirley (Haacke) (Anderson) Winder and Joyce (Haacke) Clouston as well as step grandson David Anderson.
