Obituary of John Stricker

STRICKER - Mr. John Stricker of Yorkton, formerly of Rhein, husband of the Late Viola Stricker passed away on July 15, 2015. He was 88 years of age. John was born June 28, 1927 at Rhein, Saskatchewan. He was the son of Fred and Molly (Usinger) Stricker. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein. He took his education at Rhein. As a young man, he worked as a farm hand for the farmers in the Rhein and Stornoway areas. He married Viola Boehm on January 5, 1952. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Clarinda and Candace. In 1953 John worked at Waldren, Saskatchewan. John moved to Regina in 1954, where he worked in construction. He then worked for fourteen years with Simpsons Sears in the flooring department, eventually becoming the warehouse manager. John and Viola bought the Lucky Dollar Store and locker plant at Rhein in 1967. He operated the grocery store, custom meat cutting and liquor vendor for 17 years. He then cut meat for six more years for Clarinda and Mervin. In 1990 John retired. He loved to garden and do woodwork. John enjoyed painting. John and Viola operated the canteen for the hockey and curling rink in Rhein for seven years. He loved to help Viola with catering for thirty years. John was a member of the Rhein Lions club for thirty two years. He volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society. He was on the village council for eighteen years. John served on the Yorkton Hospital Board for seven years. He collected money for the CNIB for thirty two years. His favorite past-time was following the Rhein Rockets ball team. He loved having coffee at McDonalds and the mall with his many friends. John was pre-deceased by his wife Viola, parents Fred and Molly Stricker, his brothers: Henry, Dave, Alex, Fred, Jack, Reinhold, Emanual, Clarence, his sisters: Adeline, Molly, Marie, Anne, Josephine, two siblings in infancy, his in laws, Dave and Molly Boehm. John leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his beloved daughters: Clarinda (Mervin) Hudema, Candace (Kelly) Fiege. His pride and joy of four grand- children: Tammy (Tim) Smith, Craig (Mandy) Mehling, Wendy (Brad) Haberman, Cam Mehling (Katelyn Wilson). His six great -grand-children who have brought him so much joy: Dreyden and Carson Haberman, Adam and Amber Smith, Matthew and Payton Mehling. His sisters: Pauline Leis, Lenore (Larry) Ritco, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John loved people. He was a joker and prankster. There isn't a person he knew that he didn't make laugh. He will forever be remembered for his wit and humor. We love him for teaching us to live, love and especially laugh. Please remember John with a smile ! The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Fred Schneider officiating. The organist, Loretta Herman led the congregation the singing of the hymns, "Take My Life, That I May Be" and "My Hope is Built On Nothing Less". A tribute was given by Cam Mehling. The interment followed the Christ Lutheran Parish Cemetery with Tim Smith, Craig Mehling, Brad Haberman, Adam Smith, Cam Mehling and Dreyden Haberman serving as the casket bearers.
