Obituary of George William Haig

George William Haig - Gently, with family at his side, our father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on May 27, 2015 in the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit at the age of 94 years, ten months. George was born at Kaministikwa, Ontario on July 28, 1920, the youngest child of Peter "Robert" Haig and Mary Granatier. The family homesteaded just outside of present day Thunder Bay. His siblings had been born near Lestock, SK. In 1928, as George's grandparents were ailing, the family moved back to Saskatchewan to help with their care. In 1932, the quarter of land north of Leross was purchased and became known as The Haig Farm to this day. On June 30, 1946, George married his "sweetheart", Mary Elvera Swenson. They began their life together and lived on the farm working long hours side by side throughout the years until they moved to Saskatoon's Sunset Estates in 2004, where Elaine's family kept a watchful eye on them. After Mary's passing in 2009, George moved to Regina into Queen Victoria Estates in 2011 where he remained until his passing and where Robert and his family made sure that all of George's needs were taken care of. He enjoyed the fun of family gatherings and loved to tease his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George was predeceased by his loving wife Mary in 2009; son Raymond in infancy; daughter Elaine Farkas; parents Bob and Mary; half-brother Arthur; brother Joe; sisters Margaret Jobagy, Alice Bachu and Pauline Mace; and several nieces and nephews. George is survived by his son Robert and Cyndi of White City and their family: Deanna, Blaine, Haylie and Georgia Haig; Bobbi-Jen, Todd, Sarah, Karden and Saydie-Anne Schutz; Lacee-Jayde, Chris, Hannah, Avery and Madyson Heller. His daughter Lynnette and Vern Seversen of Pelly, SK and their family: Todd, Sarah, Avery and Easten Seversen; Andrew, Michelle, Jordyn, Ryder and Trace Seversen. His son-in-law, Sidney Farkas and his family: Tiffiny and Erica Morrison; Robert, Ashlea, Taylor and Tyson, all of Saskatoon. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Lois Swenson of Alliston, Ontario. Into the sunset together with his "sweetheart" Mary! As one grand-daughter said, "Oh Grampa, I don't know how you've lived so long with a broken heart." George passed after a very short illness. We are grateful for the loving and caring life he had. His dry wit and sharp comebacks will be missed by all. The funeral service was held on Thursday, June 4th 2015 from St. Vladimir's Church in Kelliher with Crystal Bailey, B.Th. officiating. The family tribute was given by Cyndi Haig. The musical selections were 'I Can Only Imagine' & 'Grandpa'. Soloist Len Varga led the congregation in the singing of the hymn 'Church in the Wildwood'. The interment took place in the Kelliher Lutheran Cemetery with Karden Schutz serving as the urnbearer. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to the Lutheran Cemetery Fund. Service Information Thursday, June 4th, 2015 2:00pm, St. Vladimir's Church Interment Details Kelliher Lutheran Cemetery
