Obituary of Anne Kucheravy

KUCHERAVY - Mrs. Anne Kucheravy of St. Anne, Manitoba, formerly of Yorkton and the Sheho district, wife of the late Alex Kucheravy entered eternal rest peacefully the afternoon of May 20th with her two daughters, Fay, Elvina & husband Ron by her side at the Villa Youville Nursing Home, Ste. Anne, Manitoba where she spent the last 4 years. Anne was predeceased by her husband Alex (1990), her parents Wasylena & Nicholas, her step-father Alex Mizinski, her sisters Mary & Doris, brother Ivan, half-sisters Mary, Kay, Victoria, Elizabeth and her half-brothers Steve & Nick. Anne leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Elvina (Ron) Gordon, Ste. Anne, MB and Fay Spence Morrow, Sechelt, BC; granddaughter Linda (Howard) Chercoe, great grandchildren Mark & Jenna, San Diego, CA; grandsons Glenn Gordon, Winnipeg and Wayne Gordon, Vancouver, BC; granddaughter Carol (Carlos) Petrazzini; great grandchildren Alejandro, Natasha (Mitchell); great-great grandson Ben; Cassandra, Alexandra and Riocardo, Oshawa, ON; Also half-sisters Rose Polonich, Eva Zelinski, Natalie (Norbert) Wasylenko; half-brothers Bill (Cora) and Ivan (Shirley); sister-in-law Rose Mizinski and many nieces and nephews. Anne was born on November 20, 1916 to Wasylena & Nicholas Gawrelitza on a farm southwest of Sheho, Saskatchewan. In 1918 her father passed away and in 1919 her mother remarried to Alex Mizinski. Anne received her education at Pohorlowetz School and helped her mother & step-dad on the farm and orchard. In 1937 Anne was united in marriage to Alex Kuvheravy. After farming for 32 years in Sheho they semi-retired to Yorkton where Anne worked for A&W as a cook for many years and enjoyed it. Both Anne & Alex were faithful members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches in Sheho and Yorkton. Anne was an active member of the Ukrainian Women's Association of Canada in Sheho and Yorkton - Olena Pchilka Branch. She held different positions on committees including being president for seven years. She taught Sunday School for six years in Sheho and two years in Yorkton. She was an elder sister and baked altar bread (Prosfora) for Yorkton Transfiguration Church for many years. As a dedicated U.W.A. member she was awarded a 25, 50 and 60 year pin, as well as certificates. She attended many provincial and national conventions and was also a member of the I.O.D.E. Stewart Gibson chapter in Sheho and Yorkton. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially Kolachi which she baked for funerals, weddings and other special occasions. She enjoyed baking and decorating wedding and anniversary cakes, loved sewing, crocheting, quilting, reading and some carpentry work. She travelled to the Holy Land, Rome, Athens, Greek Islands, Hawaii, Florida, Los Angeles, San Diego and many places in Canada, as well as attended the Montreal and Vancouver Expos which she enjoyed very much. In 1993 Anne moved to Paradise Village 55 plus Mobile Home Park in Ste. Anne, MB to be close to her daughter Elvina and son-in-law Ron. Here she made many new friends. Anne and her Mennonite friends started a quilting bee in which she was active until her hands could no longer quilt. Many quilts were made to be raffled for charity. She also helped others with their quilting. She made many lap and baby quilts that were given to Ste. Anne's Hospital and Villa Youville Nursing Home. She also made a quilt for each grandchild and great grandchild which they will cherish forever the quilts made by Boona. When her arthritis got the best of her, her daughter Elvina made the quilts and she would take her time quilting them, which she really enjoyed. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Gerald Yaholnitsky & Parish Choir Members. Members of the Ukrainian Women's Association, Olena Pchilka Branch participated in the service. The cross bearer was Elsie Bilan. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Nick Heshka, Henry Malysh, Larry Furman, Dean Petersen, Orville Herron and Crystal Bailey serving as the casket bearers.
