Our family has parted with our Dad who was beloved, honoured and provided mentorship in all ways. John was born on January 20,1926 in St. Peter's Hospital to the parents of Jacob and Mary(nee Cyca) Hoffman and was the youngest child amongst four children. John began his early years attending grade school at the Reimer School followed by St. Henry's High School in Melville. In John's earlier adult years he moved to Lulu Island which is now currently now part of Richmond, Vancouver, B.C. where he obtained his official pilots license on a Gipsy Tiger Moth. While living on Lulu Island, he worked in both the fishing canaries and the timber mines before returning back to Melville to assist his dad with the family farm. In addition to John's passion for aviation he also enjoyed scooting around on his early 1940, 45 cubic inch Harley Davidson Knucklehead motorcycle. On November 11, 1947 John and his sweetheart Alice(nee Rogalski) exchanged nuptials at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church in Killaly, SK and took up residency on John's family farm being six miles South and three miles West of Melville. John and Alice were very devoted Catholics and raised their family to follow the principles and guidelines of the Catholic faith. During the long winter months with more leisure time on hand, John would spend a lot of time building model airplanes, updating his stamp collections and communicate via his CB radio with other CB enthusiasts.
