Muriel Wahpoosywan (Nee: KAYE) entered peacefully into rest to be with the creator on Tuesday May 12, 2015 at the age of 68. Muriel was born on the Sakimay First Nation on May 24, 1946. Muriel is survived by her children Cary Kaye of Sakimay, Dean (Michelle) Kaye of Regina, Jason (Marlyn) Kaye of Rolling River Manitoba, Audrey Kaye of Regina, Summer Dawn (Jon) Creeley of Yorkton, Nathan Kaye of Saskatoon, Michelle Kaye of Sakimay, and Allan Kaye of Whitebear First Nation. Her sisters, Geraldine (Dion) Starblanket of Yorkton and Donna Allary of Regina. Also she leaves to cherish her memory numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, special friends, her loving puppy "Missy", and her special friend from Yorkton District Nursing Home, Virginia Flamont of Yorkton. Muriel is predeceased by her parents King and Dorothy Kequahtooway from Sakimay First Nation. Her children Janis Kaye, Gary Kaye, and Dorothy Kequahtooway. Her siblings Lillian Kaye, Ronald Kaye, Marcella Kaye, Marlene Allary, Richard Kaye, Gerald Kaye, Leonard Kaye, Gladys Lavallee, and a sister in infancy, as well as numerous loved ones. Muriel was a wonderful loving mother to not only her own children but to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her extended family. Everyone who knew Muriel knows that she always had a special place in her heart for her family. She was a hard worker starting at a very young age in her life. With all the love and compassion she had, this allowed her to bloom into a social worker in the Family Service area. For many of her younger years she enjoyed working with different people, until she decided to move to the reserve. While residing on the Sakimay First Nation she continued to help her community by representing the health field as a Community Health Representative. She was always willing to help anyone with her kind spirit. Her main priority was to love and dedicate herself to her family and the community. She was a natural animal lover and loved her home dearly. She took pride in caring for the wild animals around her home such as Tony the squirrel, the birds and especially the hummingbirds. Fourteen years ago, Muriel was diagnosed with kidney failure and started her dialysis treatments three times a week in Regina and eventually was transferred to the Yorkton Regional Hospital. Due to her thoughtful nature, Muriel kept her illness from the family for the first three years of treatment. Muriel had the hunger for knowledge and always strived to learn more on her cultural beliefs. Muriel also respected the Christian way of life. As she gained knowledge of her heritage and the Gospel, she was more than willing to teach it to her children, grandchildren and relatives. She was a strong believer of the importance of family and how we are all connected, emphasising this to her loved ones. Muriel loved attending the pow-wow trail and was a great inspiration for her children, encouraging them to dance and partake in their cultural ceremonies. Muriel strongly believed that traditional dance healed the heart and soul. We would like to thank the Yorkton Regional Health Center for all the support they did while caring for Muriel during her years in the Dialysis unit, especially her nurse Janis. We would also like to thank the Yorkton and District Nursing Home staff and residence for their warm and generous hospitality in Muriel's last years.
