Obituary of Ivan Wayde Pollock

Ivan was born on Feb.9, 1944 to William and Georgia Pollock, joining big sister Gail on the farm in the Dunleath district. Ivan was united in marriage to Sandra Reid on October 30, 1970. To the couple were born Wayde William 1971, and Lori Mae 1973. Farming would be the mainstay in his life as he farmed alongside his parents on the family farm and feedlot but did enjoy a great variety of other jobs and passions over his 78 years. From being a lineman at Dunleath Telephone Company, hauling cattle for Yorkton Stockyards, hauling prepared feed from the Unifeeds mill as well as being owner/ operator of the Sturgis Auction Mart, alongside his parents from 1976 to 1983. In 1986, following a back surgery, the cultivated land on the farms’ 10 quarters, was rented out and Ivan found his second greatest love of “ the Mountains “. Ivan and Sandi joined his first cousin Heather and her husband Amos in the business to be known as Panther Valley Outfitters, located on a forestry trunk road in the backcountry of Alberta. Many memorable friends and adventures were experienced during this period of their lives. Even after his back was healed and a return to full time farming was necessary, the mountains were rarely far from mind and frequent trips back to the Ya Ha Tinda helped fuel this passion Ivan had several other businesses over the years. He was owner of P&P Guns and Ammunition which coincided with being a member of the Yorkton Gun Club for many years. Diamond P saddles evolved from his love of leather work. He taught himself to create chaps, saddlebags, knife sheaths and gun scabbards first for his family while outfitting and then for others as he began to build saddles. His well crafted saddles can be now found in 3 provinces. In later years, his team of fjords required many leather creations and so new ventures into harness making led him to a new world of friends in the heavy horse association. Unfortunately, his 20 year fight with Parkinson’s decreased his ability to create Ivan was predeceased by his parents Bill and Georgia, in- laws May and Leonard Reid, Step in law Bob Glass, and Barney his fjord.
