Obituary of Ida Kay Minke
MINKE - Ida Minke was born January 26, 1924 on the family farm near Arran, Saskatchewan. When still a young girl, her family moved to Yorkton, where she attended Sacred Heart Academy. While growing up, Ida helped with the chores at home and worked at various jobs in Yorkton. On November 11, 1945, Ida married Daniel Minke and they lived on the family homestead. The couple eventually purchased their own land on which they built a home in 1950. Here they raised their six children. As well as being a homemaker, Ida had many farm chores. She especially loved working in her huge vegetable garden and was always ready and willing to feed a crowd. We all loved her perogies and cabbage rolls. Ida was an independent, strong person and remained on the farm even after her husband passed. In 2002, she moved into Fairview Arms in Yorkton. Ida loved bargain shopping and visiting with family and friends. No matter what she was doing, she stopped to watch her soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful. She enjoyed her later years living at Fairview Arms. Ida passed away on April 14, 2015. She will be remembered by her children for her devotion to family and sadly missed by those who had the honour of knowing her. Ida was predeceased by husband Daniel in 1995; parents Joseph and Mary Panagabko; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Don McLeod; sister and brother-in-law Eugenie and William Hrebenik; sister Norma Panagabko; daughter-in-law Maria Minke; and son-in-law Rodger Jordan. Left to celebrate her life and cherish the memories are sons Allan (Karen), Terry (Laurie), Darrel (Rhonda) and daughters Carol Jordan, Dale (Tom) LaRocque, and Jackie (Ken) Peden; brother Norman Panagabko; seven grandchildren-Loretta (Brad), Robin (Justin), Jim (Tara), Leigh (Jason), Marla (Riley), Jon (Tracy), and Dani (Dan); ten great grandchildren-Jack, Ella, Gage, Jaxon, Camyrn, Maxx, Josey, Waylon, Marina, and Eligh; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, April 20, 2015 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Fr. Francis Hengen, Celebrant. The lay-readers were Rhonda Minke & Tara LaRocque. Organist, Sandra Archer led members of the Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Morning Has Broken', Psalm 138, 'Amazing Grace', 'On Eagles Wings', 'Song of the Angels', and 'How Great Thou Art'. The interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jon Minke, Michael & Jeremy Hrebenik, Jason Fuessel, Riley Brataschuk and Dan Whaley serving as the casketbearers. Members of the CWL attended the service and formed an honor guard. In Ida's name, memorials to one's charity of choice may be made as tokens of remembrance. Service Information
