STEINMACHER - Mr. Edwin Steinmacher of Yorkton, husband of the late Cecile Steinmacher passed peacefully from this life on April 3, 2015 at the age of 82, surrounded by loving family. Edwin John Steinmacher, son of Tom and Mary (Potyondi) Steinmacher was born on the family farm near Melville, Saskatchewan on May 25, 1932. Ed much preferred working on the farm to school, and threshing was his favourite season. He loved music and played guitar with the local band. He took his first off-farm job as a taxi driver, and during this time met Cecile Popowich. They were wed May 4th, 1954 in Melville and began farming. Three years later, in 1957, Ed took a job with the PFRA. This became the move which defined his family's life for the next 42 years, and beyond. As manager, Ed and Cecile lived and raised their four daughters on the Ituna Bon-Accord Community pasture, with many a spring take-in and fall round-up over those years. These were the times Ed carried with him, in his heart, as the best of his life. With a ready smile, generosity, and jokeative personality, Ed made many friends. Even in the face of trials and struggles he always remained strong and could always find the humour in things. He had a reputation for fairness and often said, "If you are good to people, they will be good to you," and, "I could get along with anyone, even the devil himself." Ed worked hard to provide for his family, and was proud of "all of my girls". His family remembers his special recipes, including home-made sausage, jelly rolls and his signature fried rice. Retirement for Ed meant spending quality time with Cecile, his cattle and horses, as well as bird watching and winter-feeding the deer. Predeceased by Cecile, his beloved wife of fifty seven years; his parents Tom and Mary Steinmacher; and grandson Michael Miskolczi. To cherish his memory, he leaves four daughters: Christine (Dennis) Bratkoski of Yorkton, Lorna (Rod) Miskolczi of Saskatoon, Fay (Jim) Morrissey of Calgary, and Pam Steinmacher (Cal Deforest) of Yorkton; five grandchildren: Stacy, Andrew, Martina, Larissa and Amber, and many other relatives and friends. The Funeral Mass was held on Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The crossbearers were Larissa & Amber Bratkoski. The pianist, Diana Hornung led members of the Parish Choir in the singing of the hymns, 'How Great Thou Art', 'Psalm 23', 'On Eagle's Wings', 'Unless a Grain of Wheat', 'Song of the Angels' and 'The Strife is O'er'. The lectors were Jim Morrissey and Cal Deforest. The prayers of the faithful were led by Fay Morrissey. Serving as the gift bearers were David & Cheryl Bratkoski. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Cal Deforest, Dennis Bratkoski.
