Obituary of Alma Popoff

Alma Popoff was born on December 29, 1928 in the Runnymede district of Saskatchewan; the eldest daughter of Henry and Stella (nee Rabchak) Haberman. Alma passed away peacefuly at the Kamsack Union Hospital on February 15, 2015. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the district. On November 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Bill Popoff at Kamsack. The couple farmed until 1956, then moved to Winnipeg to make their home. The couple resided and worked in Winnipeg for the next 30 years, raising their three children and happily retiring in 1987. Alma worked for a time at the T. Eaton Co. and also for Marvelous Muffins Bakery and Coffee Shop. In May of 1987, the couple returned to Kamsack, Saskatchewan, where they have since resided. Predeceased by her parents, infant sons (William and Brian), brothers Ed and Cliff Haberman, and brother-in-law Dave Schwab. Survived by her husband William, daughters Cynthia (Alex) Tymchak of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Barb (John) Kresowaty of Red Deer, Alberta, son Wes (Nancy) Popoff of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and her dear sister, Ann Schwab of Kamsack. Mom was blessed with a "green thumb" beyond belief. Her yards were always beautifully arranged with annuals and peri-annuals; she took great pride and joy in creating flower gardens and flower pots. She and Dad were forever battling for yard space to expand either the flower garden (Mom) or vegetable garden (Dad). Mom was a simple, kind, hardworking woman who loved her family; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rest in peace Mom, your life's work done well. We will miss you. The family would like to express gratitude to the kind staff and wonderful residents of Eaglestone Lodge for their loving care and friendship expressed to Mom over the past two years. We will remember your compassion and support. Mom had requested no formal service, but the family will gather for a graveside memorial in the summer. If desired, donations to the local Alzheimer's Chapter in Mom's memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.
