Obituary of William "Bill" Archibald Robertson

ROBERTSON - Mr. William Robertson of Springside, beloved husband of Evelyn Robertson passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 13, 2015. William Archibald known as "Bill" was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, February 19, 1943 to John and Dorothy Robertson (nee Swift). At a young age, Bill joined the local air cadets, and was so involved in the program that he received his pilot's license at age 16, even before he got his driver's license, something he was very proud of. He received his education in Dartmouth. After joining the military, he was stationed in St. Jean, Quebec, Moosnee, Ontario and Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He was very active in sports, playing hockey with the Springside Flyers, baseball with Springside and Theodore Combines. Also coached minor hockey. His great love was flying, an opportunity if that came about, he was there. He was a trucker for CP Transport for 7 years, Atomic Transfer for 23 years, Westcan for 10 years and later worked at Walmart after retiring from trucking. He was very proud of his 4 million miles of trucking in 40 years. He enjoyed CASARA Search & Rescue, fishing, Nascar and visiting with friends. He was a volunteer firefighter and also First Responders for many years in Springside. He enjoyed the many trips taken with his family to California, Nova Scotia, many times to Montreal and to Europe. He met his wife Evelyn at a ballgame in Springside, they spent 47 wonderful years together. Bill & Evelyn were married July 1, 1967 in Springside and were blessed with 2 children, Scott & Carmel. He was predeceased by his Dad, John, Mom Dorothy, brothers; Ken, John, nephew Kenny and in-laws Bill and Pauline Koban. He leaves to celebrate his life, his loving wife Evelyn, son Scott (Lorelie), daughter Carmel (Dan) and grandchildren Jordon Holstein, Brayden & Kaitlyn Tobin, sister Beatrice Shipley, Brothers-in-law John & Geraldine, Lawrence & Doris Koban, Mike Koban, Andrew Koban, Billy & Beth Koban, sister-in-law Marie Robertson and many many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and a lot of wonderful friends He loved his family & friends dearly! The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Springside Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Kauenhofen officiating. The organist, Diane Jones and pianist Kitty Arndt accompanied song leader Eldon Arndt and the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "I'll Fly Away" and "Amazing Grace". Musical Tributes were shared by a Trio, Ruth Derow, Kitty Arndt and Joan Schirrschmidt. The eulogy was conveyed by Dave Sutter. Serving as ushers were Harold Kriger and Mervin Gabert. The interment followed in the Springside Town Cemetery with Terry Achtymichuk, Ray Blommaert, Gary Schmidt, Allen Eckhart, Murray Eastcott and Keith Stratechuk serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in Bill's memory may be made to Casara Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, Zone 6 or to Springside Baptist Church.
