ANNE ABRAMETZ Anne passed away peacefully with family at her side at Lakeside Manor, Saltcoats, SK on January 10, 2015 at the young age of 98. Anne Abrametz (Beck) was born Dec. 22, 1916 on a small farm near Wroxton, SK to Michael Beck and Maria Beck (Salyn) who were settlers from Ukraine. They had fourteen children, eight girls and six boys. Anne was the second eldest of the Beck family. She attended "Scotland School" which has now been relocated to the site of the Church of Ss. Vladimir and Olga, two and a half miles north of Wroxton. After finishing school in 1933, she worked at Victoria General Hospital in Yorkton, SK until 1939 when she was married to Steve Abrametz on October 8th at St Mary's Church with Rev. V. Korba officiating. Following their marriage the couple lived on the family farm until 1982 when they moved to Yorkton. Anne had many joys in her life; her husband and family, her Church and her community. She was a firm believer in education: her mantra was "life is how you make it". She was a loving and gentle wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a grand lady of style and practical wisdom. Anne travelled widely and enjoyed a wonderful and fulfilling life and knew she was loved and cherished by her family. Anne was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church and served in many capacities with the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and Parish Council. She also served on numerous boards including the Saskatchewan Housing Authority Board and Yorkton Arts Council and developed the Ukrainian Pioneer Display at the Western Development Museum. She became proficient in various art forms that were displayed at Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre, Yorkton, St. Mary's Cultural Center, Yorkton, Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural Center, Winnipeg and Musée Ukraina Museum, Saskatoon. Anne served on the Board of Directors at St. Mary's Cultural Centre where she spearheaded the development of the cultural rooms that portray many facets of Ukrainian heritage. She also established the Ukrainian language program and Sadochuk (Ukrainian kindergarten). In recognition of her community involvement and leadership, Anne received the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Community Recognition Award in 2011. Anne was predeceased by her husband Steve (1984), son Raymond (1976), grandson Robert Andrew (1983), parents Michael Beck (1965) and Maria Beck (Salyn) (1971), brothers George (1978), Norman (1979), William (1985), Nestor (2002), and sisters Victoria Patrick (1997), Kay Fleck (2000), Irene Miazga (2004), Lillian (Becky) Legget (2007), and Frances (Frankie) Harms (2013). She leaves to mourn her daughter Leona (Ernie Shewchuk) of Winnipeg, daughter Marlene of Winnipeg, son Peter (Brenda) of Prince Albert, daughter Barbara Gerrand of Edmonton, son Thomas (Julie) of Yorkton, ten grandchildren and spouses, Leanne (Brett), Tanya (Bruno), Michelle (Robert), Peter (Debbie), Jonathan (Andrea), Marcus, Cathryn, Joshua, Stephen, and Julian and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings; Nan Webster of Seattle, Marlene McBain of Vancouver, Mervin (Voni) of Vancouver, and Stan (Ruth) of Los Angeles. A very special thank you goes to the Lakeside Manor staff for their excellent and compassionate care; they made Lakeside Manor feel like a home. Anne's granddaughters called it "the Lakeside Spa".
