KOBACK - Mary entered eternal rest at the Vermilion Nursing home on December 10, 2014. Mary Koback was born May 11, 1928, the youngest child of nine children of Prokop & Dora (nee Tiplitsky) Dmyterko of the Hardrock district. She received her education at the Hard Rock School. She moved with her parents when they retired to Ituna where she worked for a brief time at the Ituna hospital. On January 27, 1954 she married Steve Koback at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna and they moved to the Koback family farm in the Winthorpe district. Mary was a very giving person and gave unconditional love to her family. Mary had many joys in her life but also endured many hardships, her devotion to her beliefs and family helped her through her life. In the winter of 1956 they lost their home to fire, both Steve and Mary spent several weeks in hospital recovering from burn wounds. They built a new home and farmed in the Winthorpe district until 1978 when they semi-retired to their new home in Ituna. They raised their two sons Morris and Terrace on the family farm. Mary in her leisure years enjoyed the company of family and friends, playing bingo, cards, bowling amongst other activities. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Ituna and often helped at the parish hall. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her immediate family. In 2010 Mary moved to Vermilion Alberta where she lived closer to her family until her passing at the Vermilion Continuing Care facility. In her stay at the facility she touched the staff and family of residents in the home with her endearing personality. In one of her numerous conversations she said "I have to somehow finish this".
