Obituary of Ruth Helen Riffel

The family of Ruth Riffel of Yorkton sadly announce her passing on May 21, 2022. She was 94 years of age. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m from Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Barry Wood officiating. A family interment will follow in the Runnymede Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Ruth may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 239 Independent St. Yorkton, SK S3N 0S8 as gifts of remembrance. Ruth Helen Riffel was born December 23, 1927 to Henry and Mollie Riffel at a small farming community in Runnymede, Sk. She received the gift of Holy Baptism at a later date and became a child of God. As a young teenager, she publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed and received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. She remained at home to help on the family farm as all of her older sisters and brothers left for greener pastures. Finally, it was her turn! She went to Winnipeg and became a Safeway employee where she stayed for 30+ years until her retirement. While there, she sang in a large choir at Christ and Grace Lutheran Church where she was a member. She interacted with family and friends there and became an avid Bingo player and world traveller. Sports also was a big part of her life. She loved Toronto Blue Jays, Saskatchewan Roughriders, curling and hockey. When she was with any of us, you always knew when her favorite team scored; the whole house knew and possibly the neighbours! Ruth was predeceased by her parents Henry and Mollie; brothers Richard, George and Ernie; sisters Edna and Elsie; brothers-in-law John, Art and Ron; sisters-in-law Heather and Verna and nieces and nephews. She is survived by two sisters, Joy Flath (Victoria) and Jean Pister (Yorkton), sister in law Joan Riffel (Winnipeg), as well as many nieces and nephews, great, great great, and great great great nieces and nephews. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord for your daughter, sister, aunt of all of us. Service Details.
