YARECHEWSKI - Mrs. Mary Yarechewski, formerly of Mikado, widow of Alex Yarechewski entered eternal life on August 25, 2014 at the Canora Gateway Lodge at the age of 97 years. Mary was born on February 23, 1917 on the family farm northeast of Mikado. She was the eldest daughter of Mike and Rose (nee Furman) Marchinko. She received her education at Zukunft School in the Veregin District. She worked on the farm helping with her siblings and chores until February 6, 1938 when she was united in marriage to Alex Yarechewski at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Canora. They took up residence 2 miles east of Mikado where they farmed. The farming operation included grain farming, beef cattle farming, milking cows, as well as raising chickens, turkeys, geese, pigs and ducks. Alex and Mary were blessed with two daughters, Bernice and Rosanne and three sons, Leo, Alvin and Edward. In 1972, they moved to a new home in the hamlet of Mikado, while continuing to farm until the passing of her husband Alex in 1981. Mary was an excellent cook and cooked with Mary Cerkowniak at many weddings and functions. She also cooked for functions in Yorkton with her sister Adeline. She was employed with the Gateway Co-op as a cook in the cafeteria from 1978 to 1981. Mary was an avid vegetable gardener and loved tending to her flowers. She enjoyed curling, cooking and trying new recipes. She especially loved to crochet afghans and throughout her life each grandchild and great grandchild received a beautiful handmade afghan. Mary was fortunate to be able to stay in her home until November 2007 with the help of daughter-in-law Angie, Angie's husband Orville and granddaughters, Lorelei and Colleen. She then took up residence at Eaglestone Lodge in Kamsack. In January 2008 she moved to the Canora Gateway Lodge. She loved when the staff at the Lodge would come to her room and talk to her about gardening, cooking and baking. Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Bernice (Orest) Machushek and Rosanne (Gordon) Koski; her son Alvin (Bernice) Yarechewski; her twelve grandchildren: Karen Machushek, Shelley (Dave) Seck, Carleen Quaye, Susan (Stephen) Siry, Jason (Shari) Koski, Darren (Charlie) Yarechewski, Brent (Teresa) Yarechewski, Jamie Yarechewski, Sherry Kashuba, Shawn (Krysten) Yarechewski, Lorelei (Stan) Stusek and Colleen (Brent) Bourne; her sixteen great grandchildren: Chelsea (Joel) Wisser, Jarrett Seck, Brooklynn Seck, Alex Koski, Caleb Quaye, Joshua Siry, Megan Siry, Kadence Koski, Jesse Yarechewski, Lila Yarechewski, Zach Yarechewski, Olivia Yarechewski, Jenna Stusek, Carmen Stusek, Ashley Stusek and Kristopher Yarechewski; her two daughters-in-law: Betty Yarechewski and Angie (Orville) Drobot; and her sister-in-law Mary Marchinko. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband Alex Yarechewski; her parents Mike & Rose (nee Furman) Marchinko; her two sons Leo & Edward; her four brothers: Victor, Ladie, John & Albin and her three sisters: Ann, Adeline & Emilia. Prayers were held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Canora. Readings were given by Darren & Brent Yarechewski. The Intercessory Prayers were led by Carleen Quaye. Hymns, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" were included in the service. The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father Franklin Emereuwa as the Celebrant. The organist, Colleen Bourne led members of St. Joseph's Choir in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Only a Shadow", "Be Not Afraid" and "Serdeczna Matko". Readings were given by Karen Machushek & Lorelei Stusek. The Intercessory Prayers were led by Shelley Seck. The Gift Bearer was Brooklynn Seck. Serving as cross bearer was Kristopher Yarechewski. Jenna, Carmen & Ashley Stusek were the altar servers. Reflections of Baba Y's life were shared by granddaughter Lorelei Stusek. Members of the CWL participated in an honour guard. The interment followed in the Canora Town Cemetery with Alvin Yarechewski, Darren Yarechewski, Brent Yarechewski, David Seck, Jarrett Seck and Stan Stusek serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Mary's life may be made to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church - Building Fund or the Canora Gateway Lodge.
