STRUTYNSKI - Mrs. Emily Strutynski of Yorkton, formerly of the Stornoway district, widow of Walter Strutynski entered eternal life on August 17, 2014 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. She was 83 years of age. Emily Strutynski (nee Skotnitsky) was born on May 30, 1931 on the family farm near Stornoway. She was the third child of five born to Walter and Katherine (nee Solonenko). Emily lived most of her life in the Stornoway district. She received her education at Stornoway School. Emily loved school and was an excellent baseball player. She enjoyed her time on the family farm playing house and making mud pies with her sisters. Sadly her childhood was cut short by the untimely passing of her father. At the age of 12 Emily's responsibilities moved her from the playhouse to the main house as her mother and brothers carried on with the family farm. Due to the era and financial constraints Emily's dream of post-secondary education was cut short. At the age of 16 she ventured to Toronto to find work. Her eastern stay was short lived, but long enough to find another Stornoway boy trying to make it in the big city. On October 22, 1949 Emily married Walter Strutynski. The couple continued to farm and was blessed with four children. Emily jokingly referred to her two families with the 17 year spread from the oldest to the youngest. Her love of the farm, gardening, and flowers paled in comparison to her love of family and God. Emily was a strong supporter of her families' ambitions. Through the years Emily was involved with various organizations. These included the Stornoway Ladies group, St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Wroxton, Canadian Cancer Society, various volunteer work, and the Wroxton Recreation Centre. Emily was a strong and passionate woman who spoke up to injustices and put her faith into action through her years of servant hood. Her trust in God's will and the love of the family kept her going through difficult times. Emily was well known for her hospitality, many a good meal, and many an act of kindness done without fanfare. Emily's early beginnings made her a fierce supporter of all her children and grandchildren. She loved being a mom and a Baba. Her declining health was no limitation to the passion she had to be there for her children. She knew full well that worldly riches are fleeting but the treasures of faith are forever. She was an excellent role model for her children and grandchildren teaching them the importance of hard work, pride, and family. Above all, her grandchildren were her greatest achievements recognising each of their special gifts. On Sunday August 17, 2014 Emily was able to go home. Having been satisfied that her work on earth was done she accepted and looked forward to a Heavenly reunion with her Father. The family takes comfort knowing she is wrapped in her heavenly Father's arms. See you later. Emily will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Walter and Katherine; her husband Walter; her son Kenneth; her two brothers, Anton and Carl, brother in law William Minchuk and sister in law Janet Skutnitski. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her sons, Barry of Wroxton and Charles (Lori) of Stornoway; daughter Jackie Rohatensky of Yorkton; daughter-in-law Martha Strutynski of Stornoway; wonderful grandchildren, Keith (Tricia) Strutynski of Stornoway, Ian (Coreen) Strutynski of Edmonton, Wyatt and Cody Strutynski of Stornoway, Eliah and Jenna Bedwell of Langenburg; Logan and Tèa Rohatensky of Yorkton; three great grandchildren Kenley, Ty, and Turner Strutynski of Stornoway; sisters Mary Minchuck of Kelowna, Nettie (Fred) of Yorkton, and sister- in- law Paulette of Saskatoon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Prayers were held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant.
