Obituary of Raymond Roger Matisho

MATISHO - Ray Matisho, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 6th, 2014 in Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, at the age of 75, with family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank, James and Katie, his son Sheldon and sister Zen. Ray was born on May 6, 1939. He was raised on the family farm in Willowbrook. He graduated from the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. Ray married Leona (Wingerak) on June 29th, 1963 and were blessed with three children: Darcy, Sheldon and Leanne. They were further blessed with seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Ray had a zest for life and valued family and friends. Ray and Leona enjoyed hosting many social gatherings. His wonderful sense of humor enabled him to befriend many. He also had a passion for travelling and along with his wife enjoyed many winters in the sunny south. Ray found success in his Texaco business and enjoyed farming. He also liked the challenge of building homes. Ray played soft ball as a young man and enjoyed curling, golfing, fishing and camping. He was very sports minded and rarely missed a Terrier hockey game. He also followed the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, Toronto Blue Jays, NHL games, plus many other sports. He was an active member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, ACT club and volunteered in many community programs. Ray leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife Leona, children, Darcy (Sylvia) and Leanne (Kirk), grandchildren Arlie, Karling (Jason), Brennan (Krystal) and Kaylee; Tiarah (Joey) & Jarred and Jocelyn , and one great granddaughter Brecklyn , also left to mourn are his sisters, Fran Geisler, Joyce Kniaz, Eileen Wilkie, Shirley Ward, Geraldine Slaferek, his many cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Prayers were held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Holy Rosary led by members of the Knights of Columbus, Father Delaere Council preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Most Rev. Bishop Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R. and Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. concelebranting. The responses were led by Laurie Fedorowich and St. Mary's English Choir Members. The cross bearer was Karling Baluk and the epistle reader was Lori McInnis. Serving as ushers were Shawn Ward and Terry Wrishko. Members of the Knights of Columbus held an honour guard. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Darrel Wrishko, Dale Slaferek, Randy Geisler, James Ward, Arnie Geisler and Desi Kniaz serving as the casket bearers. A tribute and words of appreciation were conveyed by Sylvia Matisho. Memorials honouring Ray's life may be made to St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
