DERENIWSKY - Mrs. Beatrice Dereniwsky of Yorkton, formerly of the Rhein district, widow of Paul Dereniwsky passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2014 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 91 years of age. Beatrice was born on May 17th, 1923 in the Dneiper District, Saskatchewan. Beatrice was the 5th of 9 children born to Anton Malinsky and Mary (nee Kowal) Malinsky. She received her education at the Vionne School. On July 28th, 1944, Beatrice was united in marriage to Paul Dereniwsky and settled on the farm at Rhein, Saskatchewan. This union was blessed with 5 children. Paul passed away on January 15th, 1988. She was a loving and caring homemaker with a sharp sense of humour and a heart of gold. There were many gatherings with families and friends. She loved her family dearly and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. In 1994, Beatrice moved to Yorkton where she was closer to her daughters, family and friends. For 22 years she spent a week in August at the lake where she was doted upon by her daughters and granddaughters. She loved gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, playing cards with her granddaughters and watching curling and the Blue Jays play ball on T.V. Beatrice leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, a son Kenneth and his wife, Monica of Canora, 4 daughters and their husbands, Gail and Jim Sletten of Yorkton, Gloria and Bob Faryon of Yorkton, Jo-Ann and Bill Wilson of Calgary and Glenda and Garnet Ottenbreit of Winnipeg, her grandchildren Dean (Kristen) Dereniwsky of Canora, Carmen (Shane) Kraynick of Canora, Mona (Dick) Pinder of Calgary, Pamela Sletten (Gareth Cummins) of Calgary, Lindsay (Derek) O'Quinn of Yorkton, Jennifer Faryon (Murray Humble) of Martensville, Megan (Cam) Sheldon of Winnipeg, Hilary Ottenbreit (Keith Sheldon) of Winnipeg, 9 great grandchildren, Carson and Carter Dereniwsky, Connor, Parker and Hailey Kraynick, Thomas Pinder, Morgan Cummins, Harlow O'Quinn, Patrick Sheldon, 2 step great grandchildren, Sydney and Landon Humble, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and good friends. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1988, her parents, Anton and Mary Malinsky; her brothers, Martin, Casper, Edmund, Edward, Adolph and grandchild Garrett. She is survived by her sister Lucy Ostafie, and brothers, Mervin and Frank. Prayers were held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus & St. Mary's Choir members. The cross bearer was Carson Dereniwsky and the epistle reader was Kristen Dereniwsky. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dean Dereniwsky, Shane Kraynick, Murray Humble, Derek O'Quinn, Dick Pinder, Gareth Cummins, Cam Sheldon and Keith Sheldon serving as the casket bearers. Tributes were given by granddaughters, Mona, Jennifer, Hillary and Megan. Memorials honouring Beatrice's life may be made to St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
