Obituary of John Albert Hettema

John Hettema, resident of Yorkton, formerly of Regina, beloved father of Denise Barlow of Yorkton, passed away on Friday, May 6th 2022 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home Home. He was 94 years of age. Cremation has taken place. The interment will take place in the family plot at the Regina Memorial Gardens at a later date. John Hettema, of Yorkton, former longtime resident of Regina, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6th 2022 at Yorkton. He was 94 years of age. John Albert Hettema was born on January 20th 1928 at Kenville, Manitoba; a son of Harry & Ella Hettema. John moved to Regina at the age of 15, shovelling coal with the CPR. He eventually worked his way up to become an engineer, retiring after 44 years of service. In 1948 John was united in marriage to Amilie Farrell. Amilie predeceased John in 2003. John enjoyed his winter holidays, golfing and was active in provincial politics. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of Westminster United Church. He is survived by his two daughters: Denise Barlow of Yorkton, and Sherry Hettema (Allan Lever) of Toronto; four grandsons: John Barlow (Louise); Todd Barlow; Stephen Barlow (Trina); and Ari Lever. Cremation has taken place. The interment will take place this summer in the family plot at the Regina Memorial Gardens. Service Details.
