PURVES - Corrine Purves, resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, passed away on Sunday, June 8th, 2014. She was 94 years of age. Corrine May Purves was born on May 31, 1920 in the Churchbridge district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Nellie (nee Putland) and Herman Karstad. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the district country school. As a young girl Corrine stayed at home to help on the family farm. At a young age she made her choice to serve God and continued faithfully to the end. On November 30, 1944 she was married to John Purves in Yorkton. The couple resided at Pelly Saskatchewan where they renovated an old grain bin and called it home for their first winter. While John was trucking, Corrine stayed behind and supplied their home with meat for the entire winter, at times hunting on her own. They moved to Grande Prairie Alberta where their first son, Carlyle, was born before returning to the Saltcoats district in 1949. They resided there until the early 1950's when the family moved to make their home in Yorkton. While in Yorkton, Corrine stayed at home to care for their family. Corrine loved life to its fullest, with a ready smile on her face for anyone in her presence. She loved to be outdoors, always enjoying camping, fishing, and even hunting side by side with her husband and family. She also very much enjoyed annual family vacations, whether it was to the cabin at McBide Lake or visiting her sisters, brothers, relatives and friends on the west coast and Vancouver Island. After John's passing in August of 1988, Corrine continued to maintain her independence in her own home, carrying on with the family business. She sold fishing equipment across Saskatchewan and Alberta to many lake resorts and camping sites, still enjoying the outdoor life and traveling. Later she moved into the Fairview Arms Seniors' apartments where she still insisted on keeping active, climbing the stairs to the top of the building many times a day. She visited her neighbours in the hall, sharing her joy for life with her infectious ever ready smile. One day, out for her walk, she suffered a serious fall. Corrine was hospitalized at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for some months, and subsequently became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in February of 2011. Corrine's life has left many loving memories for her family and friends, a rainbow of smiles and a garden of guidance for all who knew her. Besides her husband John, she was predeceased by a grandson Eric and three sisters Elsie Bentley, Esther Larson and Irma Larson. She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children: Carlyle (Edith) of Blackfalds AB; Orrion (Shirley) of Calgary, AB; Harvey of Delta, BC; Orphys (Don) Morrison of Yorkton, SK; Dale (Gloria) of Lacombe, AB; Robert (Pam) of Red Deer, AB; and Kermit (Susan) of Lacombe, AB; grandchildren & great grandchildren: Barbie (Carey) & Mckenna & Tate; Scott (Angie) & Carter, Jaxon & Morgan; Brian (Melanie) & Hunter & Brynlee; Darren (Deidre) & Samuel & Graydon; Sherry; Tyrone (Kristine) & Alexander, Cara & Baler; Nathaniel; Katrina (Jeff) & Morgan; Trent; Leisa (Misael); Miquela; Lindsey; Kelsi; & Shelby; brothers Lars (Martha) Karstad and Dean (Amy) Karstad and many special friends.
