BLISHCHAK - Mr. Nick Blishchak of Yorkton entered eternal life on May 8, 2014 at the age of 99 years, 5 months and 28 days. Nick was born on November 10, 1914 in the Fenwood district, son of Wasyl and Anastasia Blishchak. He attended the local school, completing grade six at the same time helping his parents on the family homestead. Nick would recall the time he assisted in the building of #52 highway with mules in the early 30's. It wasn't all work; there were many social functions, dancing all hours until the early morning and then back to work, not complaining of being tired. It was at these social functions that Nick met the love of his life, Rosie Teslak and were married in November, 1936. This marriage was blessed with four children Donald (Maria) of Yorkton; Elizabeth (George) Mergen of Saskatoon, Gladys (deceased as an infant) and Victoria (Dmytro) Zaharia of Regina; six grandchildren: Susan, Judy, Tim, Pam and Leah Mergen and Darrell Zaharia; six great grandchildren: Ashley, Nickolas, Adam, Carter, Ian and Logan and a sister Mary Shuflita. Nick and Rosie enjoyed farming along with their son Donald. Upon retiring from the farm they built a home in Yorkton. In 1987 Nick lost his wife Rosie, but continued to reside at their home until 2007 when he became a resident of Yorkton District Nursing Home. Prayers were held on Sunday, May 11, 2014 following the Holy Rosary led by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant . The responses were led by Ed Pindus and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Leah Mergen and the epistle reader was Judy duchalard. Members of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood formed the honour guard. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Brad Berrns, Dan duchalard, Darrell Zaharia, Tim Mergen, Lionel Woytas and Billy Teslak serving as the casket bearers.
