GULAGA - Mrs. Mary Gulaga entered eternal life on April 25, 2014 at the Jowsey House, Yorkton & District Nursing Home with family at her side. She was 83 years of age. Mary was born July 16, 1930 to Tony and Rose Derkach in the Churchill district near Ituna, Saskatchewan. She attended elementary school in Churchill and high school at Sacred Heart in Yorkton. Mary was united in marriage to John Gulaga in 1947 and lived and worked on the family farm in the Hubbard area. This union was blessed with three sons, Hank, Terry and Brian. She worked in the Ituna Nursing Home for several years. In 1983 Mary and John retired to Yorkton. Here she became active in St. Mary's Parish, UCWLC, bowling and horseshoes. Mary loved to travel, enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting and making her famous perogies and various other Ukrainian dishes. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Hank (Sylvia) of Edmonton, AB, Terry (Faye) of Saskatoon, SK and Brian (Leslie) of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren Kelly (Leslie), Tracy (Ron), Breanne and Mathew; great grandchildren Stephanie, Cory and Jordan and numerous other relatives. Mary was predeceased by husband John on April 1, 2005. A Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, officiated by Most Rev. Bishop Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R. and Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. The Holy Rosary led by Ukrainian Catholic Women's League preceded the prayers. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Most Rev. Bishop Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R. and Very Rev. Father Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. concelebrating. The responses were led by Ed Pindus & St. Mary's Choir members. Serving as cross bearer & epistle reader was Johanna Hnatiuk. Honorary Pallbearers were Hilda Derkach, Doris Rudy, Linda Hydamaka, Kim Merasty, Pam Molnar, Angela Harrick and Margie Ritter. The Honour Guard was held by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Terry Gulaga, Brian Gulaga, Orest Derkach, Brian Molnar, Brian Stranaghan and Mathew Gulaga serving as the casket bearers. A eulogy was conveyed by Hilda Derkach. Memorials honouring Mary's life may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Mary's Church Building Fund.
