PROCYSHEN - Mrs. Mary Procyshen passed away on April 20, 2014 at the Yorkton District Nursing Home. She was 100 years of age. Mary was born September 25, 1913 at the homestead farm by Donwell to Fred and Sophie Kuruliak. Mary was united in marriage to Tony Procyshen on November 11, 1934. They were blessed with 3 children, Son, Lawrence (Gayle) Procyshen, 2 Daughters, Louise Pederson, and Eunice (Don) Stefiuk. Tony and Mary farmed on Tony's homestead in the Donwell district for 40 years until retirement to Yorkton 1974. During their retirement they did some travelling to Europe, Hawaii, Arizona, Alaska and other bus tours. They lived together in their retirement home for 19 years until Tony passed away on Feb 25th, 1993. Mary managed to live there for several more years, then eventually moved to Queen Elizabeth Court. Mary attended Bridok School until grade 8 and went to work in Melville as a nanny at a very early age until her marriage to Tony. On the farm, she helped Tony with the seeding and harvesting, daily mixed farming duties as well growing a huge garden. Mary enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and knitting, making feathered pillows and carding wool for quilts. Tony and Mary's farm was a gathering place for many events. She always enjoyed and found time to bake and cook for these gatherings (especially her famous chicken with cream). Mary also assisted in the preparation of food for the huge Ukrainian weddings. Mary was also a very active member of the Donwell West Congregation and Donwell Community Hall. Over the years Mary encountered some freak accidents. There are too many to mention, but some of the more serious ones were a broken jaw, broken right leg, and mauled left leg from the jagged steel from a belt that broke. In September 2012, just before her 99th birthday, she accidently fell, and broke her pelvis. This landed her in the hospital, and after that she moved to the Morris House Nursing home where she celebrated her 100th Birthday on September 25, 2013 before her passing. Mary was predeceased by her husband Tony, her brother Harry Kuruliak, her step sisters Lena Phillippi, Mary Procyshen, step brothers Alex Procyshen, Nick Procyshen, Ted Procyshen, half-sister Betty Kuruliak.
