KREPTUL - Mrs. Kate Kreptul of Regina, formerly of Wadena and Ituna passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the age of ninety-two with family at her side. Kate was born on December 2, 1921 on a farm near Theodore, Saskatchewan. She was the second youngest of seven children, two brothers and four sisters, born to Anne and Nicholas Nidesh. The family later moved to a farm near Fitzmorris where she walked 2 ½ miles to school at Caldervale. She was predeceased by her husband Matt, sisters Mary, Jean and Helen and brothers Bill and Metro. She is survived by her younger sister Bessie (Larry) Arsenault of Lake Havasau, Arizona and children Veronica (Orest) Protzak, Saskatoon; granddaughter Pam (Lauro) Vives and great grandchildren J.P., Trey and Matea, and great-great granddaughter Braxton; granddaughter Michelle (Murray) Beavers and great grandchildren Drew and Carter; grandson Dion (Treena) Protzak and great grandchildren Ayden and Zoe; daughter Mildred (Dave) Feniuk, Regina; granddaughter Nancy; son Claude Kreptul, White Rock, B.C. and grandson Ryan. Kate was the tomboy of the family and helped her brothers with farm work. Her brother Bill liked to tease her and one special memory for her was when one day she got up from milking a cow and poured a pail of milk at him. She met the love of her life, Matt Kreptul, at a dance in Parkerview. They courted for about a year then got married November 1, 1942. They lived on a farm, six miles from Parkerview, where they raised horses and purebred Hereford cattle. Kate preferred working outside, feeding cattle, pumping water, cleaning barns, etc. rather than cooking, baking and cleaning. In 1944 she was forced into being housebound as Veronica was born. Then the next year along came Mildred. They had such good luck with their first two children that they decided, after 17 years, to try for a son; Claude was born in 1962. As the girls grew up she spent more time helping with outside chores, as Matt would attend bull sales and later drove a school bus. In the 1960's Matt took the Local Government Administration course which led to them selling the farm and moving to Insinger in August, 1965. In 1967 they moved to Ituna. This is where she was introduced to the great game of curling. They lived in Ituna until December 27, 1974 when they moved to Wadena. Matt retired and they moved back to Ituna in December, 1985 and bought back their old house. Matt passed away December 24, 1989. She continued to live in Ituna tending her garden in the summer and making perogies in the winter. Kate was an active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Ladies Aid in Ituna, Wadena and Regina. She liked to play cards, bingo, bowl with the social club, play shuffleboard and curl. In early February, 1994, she curled in the Ituna women's bonspiel winning a prize for the oldest curler. She loved to play cards, rummy (boxes) and would always have an excuse not to pay her dues. She had a great sense of humour and will be remembered for her happy spirit. In 2005, she moved to Regina and lived at Selo Gardens and in January 2013 she moved into Parkside Extendicare. The family is deeply appreciative of the care and concern provided by the staff at Parkside Extendicare and also the staff at the Pasqua Hospital on 4A. The care and concern were beyond our expectations - thank you. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sheho with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Katie Rudey and parish choir members. The cross bearer was led by Claude Kreptul. The interment followed in the Parish Cemetery with Pam Vives, Michelle Beavers, Dion Protzak, Nancy Feniuk, Trey Vives, J. P. Vives and Ryan Centimo serving as the casket bearers. Xpuctoc Bockpec!
