RIFFEL - Mrs. Ida Riffel, resident of Extendicare Nursing Home in Moose Jaw, formerly of Yorkton and the Rhein district, widow of the late Ronnie Riffel, passed away on Monday, March 31st, 2014 following a time of failing health. She was 87 years of age. Ida was born on June 9th, 1926 in the Langenburg district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Paulina (nee Kitz) and Jacob Kitsch. She was baptized on June 27th 1926 by Pastor W. C. Baumann, and confirmed on April 13, 1941 at Langenburg by Pastor A. O. Borchardt. Ida was raised on the family farm and attended school in the district. On November 13, 1965 she was united in marriage to Rheinhold (Ronnie) Riffel at Christ Lutheran Church in Langenburg. This union was blessed with one daughter, Lenora in 1968. The family successfully farmed and made their home in the Rhein district for over 35 years. During their many years on the farm Ida and Ronnie were faithful members of the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church. In 2000 Ida and Ronnie retired and moved into Yorkton, and were welcomed into the congregation of St. Paul Lutheran Church. On November 13, 2003, Ronnie passed away. Following that time Ida was able to maintain her independence by moving into the Queen Elizabeth Court in 2005, and then moving to Moose Jaw to be closer to family. Ida was last a resident of the Extendicare Nursing Home in Moose Jaw, where she passed away. Besides her husband Ronnie, Ida was predeceased by her sisters: Martha Kohnen; Regina Jeske; Gladys Just; & Gertrude Collins. Brothers: Emil Kitsch; Jacob (Teddy) Kitsch; and Ewald Kitsch; brothers-in-law: Phillip Kohnen; John Jeske; Bill Collins; & Willie DeBackere. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Lenora Shaw and her husband Calvin of Moose Jaw; grandsons Ryley, Ian & Hunter (which were Ida's pride and joy.) A sister, Frieda DeBackere; sister-in-law Donna Kitsch; and by a brother-in-law Lawrence Just. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Karen Stepko and Rev. Fred Schneider of St. Paul Lutheran Church co-officiating. Organist, Vange Shipowick, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace', 'Jesus Loves Me', and 'How Great Thou Art'. Soloist, Ray Yost sang 'In the Garden'. The interment followed in the Christ Lutheran Parish Cemetery with Brian & Glenn Kitsch, Rick Pannell, Brian Neibrandt, Tim Artemenko and Gary Hertlein serving as the casketbearers.
