Obituary of Mechalina "Lena" Sedlovitch

Mechalina Sedlovitch was born on August 15,1922 at Fenwood, Saskatchewan, the forth child to John and Efronsine (nee Sawchyn) Sedlovitch. Lena as known to family and friends received her education at Fenwood. In her mid teen Lena began employment at Karasick General Store then worked for Soifers Produce as an egg and poultry grader. With the closure of the plant in Fenwood she was transferred to Melville Head Office from where she commuted to Atwater, Tisdale, Calder, Stockholm, Bangor and Ituna teaching other the trade and did "Subbing" where needed. When Soifers Produce closed she was employed for Yorkton Bus Depot. When her brothers were call to War Lena went back home to be with her parents and "subbed" as a night shift mail carrier. Her brothers returned home from war Lena worked as a painter for Sedlovitch Construction then worked for Joe's Lunch. She later assisted the Fenwood Postmaster taking over postal duties when he was away. In 1965 she opened Lena's Lunch closing in 1969. Lena was involved as a secretary-treasure for the Village of Fenwood, served on the first Fenwood Recreation Board, the Centennial and Rink Building Committees, represented the village on the Public Health Board and the Melville and District Home Care Board as Director. She volunteered to serve on the R.M. of Stanley History Book Committee as secretary-treasure. Lena enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, painting, coin collecting, reading, playing bingo and socializing. Lena entered her eternal rest on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Home at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by her father John, mother Efrosine; her brothers, Peter, Joe, John, Mike and Nick; one sister, Ann Tymko and Frances Dohms. Lena leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gail of Fenwood; sister, Sophie (Henry) Frick of Melville; sisters-in-law, Levona Sedlovitch of Goodeve and Eleanore Sedlovitch of Melville; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
