MADUCK - Mr. John Maduck of Saskatoon, formerly of Yorkton, beloved husband of Angeline Maduck entered eternal life on March 18, 2014. He was 80 years of age. John was born on May 1, 1933 in Homefield, SK to William and Katie Maduck (nee Horudko). He completed his grade 8 schooling at Smokeside School, after which he worked on the family farm for a year. At age 16, his sense of adventure took him to Winnipeg, where he worked as a welder. A year later, his next stop would be Tahsis, BC, on Vancouver Island, to work in the lumber mill there. It was during this period that John and Angeline corresponded continuously, leading to their engagement in 1955. Another year was spent apart as John travelled to Toronto, where he worked to save for his upcoming marriage. He came home on his birthday, and one month later, married Angeline Fedyk on June 24, 1956 at St. Mary's Church in Yorkton. His extensive mechanic career began at Young's Garage in Yorkton, which led him to school in Saskatoon, where he obtained his journeyman certificate in heavy-duty mechanics and welding. In 1957, he became a valued employee at the Department of Highways in Yorkton, until his retirement in 1987. John was highly respected for his workmanship and creativity in accomplishing the task at hand. His strong work ethic enabled him to provide for his family. On June 1, 1957, John and Angeline were blessed with twins, Alan and Arlene. Four years later, they welcomed a son, Wayne, born in 1961, and a daughter, Shirley, born in 1963. In retirement, John was kept busy building a new home in Yorkton and offering his help to others whenever he was asked. John and Angeline made the move to St. Volodymyr Villa in Saskatoon in September of 2007 in order to be closer to family. John made many friends throughout the villa community, which brought him much joy. In November of 2013, John was diagnosed with a pre-leukemic blood disorder. He endured the treatments needed valiantly, maintaining his strong sense of humor throughout. John passed away at home on March 18, 2014. John was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Tony and Walter and sisters Adella, Elsie and Lucy. John leaves to mourn his ever-devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Angeline; his four children, Alan (Diane) [step children Bobbi, Colby & Randi], Arlene (David) Franko [Michael, Larissa, Daniel, Matthew & Amy], Wayne (Carol) [Sarah, Thomas, Stephen & Gabrielle; step children Rachel & Murray], Shirley (J.P.) Barker [Marie, Jonathan, Joseph, Emily, Rachel & Hannah]. He also leaves to mourn brothers Bill (Adeline), Alex (Vi) and sisters Jean, Ruby (Boris), Patsy (Adam), Judy (Eugene) and sister-in-law Anne, and many nieces and nephews. John enjoyed music, especially playing the fiddle, travelling, camping and found great satisfaction in a job well done. John had a strong faith in God, and pride in belonging to St. Mary's Parish and the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. John loved his family, especially time spent with his 15 grandchildren. Many hours were spent listening to Gido telling stories and jokes. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. May his memory be eternal.
