Mrs. Mary Protz of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and formerly of the Beaverdale District passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Yorkton & District Nursing Home at the age of 100 years, 11 months, 28 days. Mary was born on March 11, 1913 in the Junior School District and where she received her education. Mary helped on the family farm until her marriage to William Protz on August 5, 1934. They made their home on a farm in the Beaverdale district and in 1974 retired to Yorkton. In 1996 Mary moved to Victoria Court and in 2003 to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. As a wife and mother, Mary provided guidance and support in all her family's endeavours. Mary's home was also a gathering place for family and friends, but treasured most of all, the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. Mary was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Pearl (nee Bohach) Oscienny; her husband William; her son Michael; sister Ann Hull; brothers John, Andrew, Steve, Alexander, Metro, Harold, Anthony, Samuel and Joseph Oscienny. Mary leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory; her daughter Adele (Lloyd) Hillmer of Calgary AB; her sons Frank (Darlene) Protz of Prince George, BC, August (Helene) Protz of Regina, SK, Mervin (Irene) Protz of Red Deer, AB; 10 grandchildren Darrell, Darcy, Darrell, Myron, Jeffrey, Carman, Cheryl, Wade, Tanya and Taralee; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by a brother William (Hilda) Oscienny of Victoria, BC; sisters Nellie Kachmar of Vancouver, BC and Teenna Turchak of Chilliwack, BC; sisters-in-law Bernice of Melville, SK and Kay of Chilliwack, BC; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary led by friends of St. Mary's preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus and parish choir members. Mary Lazurko served as the cross bearer and Angie Grunert was the epistle reader. The interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Wade Hillmer, Devon Wilson, David Hull, Darwin Schwitzer, Len Flesjer and Robert Oscienny serving as the casket bearers.
