ANTONISHYN - Joe Antonishyn, beloved husband of Annie of Kelliher passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at St. Joseph's Integarated Care Centre in Lestock. He was 91 years of age. Joseph Antonishyn was born on March 1, 1923 in the Kelliher district of Saskatchewan; a son of Annie (nee Stadnitsky) and Anton Antonishyn. He was raised on the farm and received his schooling at the Campbelltown School. As a young man he remained to help on the family farm. On July 8, 1944 he was united in marriage to Annie Halushka at Ituna. Joe and Annie raised their family and continued to build up the farming operation over the many years ahead, operating a successful mixed farm north-east of Kelliher. In 1982 Joe and Annie built a home in Kelliher but only semi-retired from farming, making numerous trips back out to the farm for many more years. He fully retired in 1995. During his many years on the farm, Joe was a member of the SK Wheat Pool, and also had served as a school trustee. Joe always loved the adventures of farming. During his farming career he lived through numerous changes in farming, working with horses, the first tractor to computers in farm equipment and each change he met head on and enjoyed. He definitely appreciated vehicles with GPS. Hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes. Joe was a good family man and friend. He was especially fond of his grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; brothers and sisters: Mary, Mike, Ludwig and Caroline, all in infancy; Frank; Julie Wistoski, Eva Boczulak, Rosie Kitzul and Katie Faye. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Annie; son Russ (Zarrina) of Kelliher; daughter Brenda (Richard) Speed of Calgary; grandchildren: Sherry; Kevin (Judy); Trenton (Kara); Janet (Adam Ornawkas); great grandchildren: Lyla & Ethan. Also two sisters: Emilie Shuya and Jenny Horvath; numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. The prayer vigil service was held on Monday evening March 10, 2014 and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, all from St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Kelliher. Rev. Father Albert Schmitz was the Celebrant. The Lecters were daughter Brenda and grandson Kevin. Song-leader, Leonard Varga led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Like A Shepherd', 'Rest in God Alone', 'The Lord's My Shepherd', 'Amazing Grace', 'As We Gather at Your Table', and 'Sing a New Song'. The crossbearer was Janet Speed, The interment took place in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with Kevin Antonishen, Carl Halushka, Phillip Buczulak, Larry Kitzil, Gerald Pawelec and Adam Ornawkas serving as the casketbearers. A memorial luncheon followed. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
