Lena Werner nee Wasylowich, wife of the late Alfred Werner of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, formerly of Springside, passed away on March 3rd, 2014. She was 87 years of age. Lena was born on April 1st, 1926 in the Buchanan District. She attended school at Northlake School in the Good Lake District. Lena grew up on the family farm in the Buchanan District with her parents and six siblings. She enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, as well as many social gatherings such as dances at Drobot Hall. On February 20th, 1949 Lena married Alfred Werner of the Springside District. They lived on the family farm where they raised their first two sons. Lena and Alfred moved to Springside where they built a home for their family. Lena was a loving mother and a good homemaker. She was very particular about her home, everything was up to date with the current décor. She was a lifelong customer of the Simpson Sears catalogue, ordering everything from curtains, wallpaper, furniture, and being the fashionista that she was, all the modern fashions. Lena was a very kind and caring person, she helped her family and friends however and whenever she could. Her personality was full of spunk which lent itself to some very humerous moments. Her funny wit was enjoyed by many family members and friends. There was never a dull moment in the Werner household when Lena was around. Lena looked forward to many family outings especially many hours in the bush picking mushrooms and different berries. Fishing trips with Alfred, children and grandchildren were a highlight as she loved fresh fish on the fire. Cooking was a mystery, you never knew what type of meat was in the frying pan simmering in the infamous layer of lard. Lena will be sadly missed by her family and will always be cherished in memory. Lena was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Maria (nee Orzirny) Wasylowich, her husband Alfred Werner, a son Daniel; brothers Steve, John and sister Annie.
