NINOWSKY - Henry Ross Ninowsky was born on November 14, 1940 at Yorkton, SK; son of Mary (nee Bewcyk) and Nick Ninowsky. He was raised on the family farm near Calder, SK and received his education at Liberal School. As a young man, Henry worked many jobs including time on the railroad, farm hand, cab driver, working at the local Dodge dealership in Yorkton, and with Weber Construction. He married Joan Farwell in 1966 and had two children, Rhonda and Travis. In 1968, the family moved to Esterhazy where Henry became employed at IMC Potash until his retirement. He worked as a miner operator and was proud to cut as many tones of potash he could per shift. Henry had a keen interest in salesmanship as a hobby. In his early years he was a Filter Queen Vacuum Cleaner salesman, then a Raleigh Household Product rep, and finally started his own company, Henry Ninowsky Sales, selling specialty advertising products. He travelled to many trade shows promoting his business. Henry loved nature and the outdoors. When the family was young there were camping trips to Good Spirit, Madge and Clear Lakes. In 1975 he considered a more permanent lake location and staked his claim at Canora Beach, Good Spirit Lake. At that time, there was no electricity at that location and the cottage was built with hand tools, the rafters being the only thing pre-fabricated. This place became very special to the family, especially once the grandchildren came and many fond memories were made here with family and friends. Henry's love of animals was evident by all the bird and squirrel feeders scattered in the bush which he made the grandchildren fill up when they came to visit. With a smile from ear to ear, Henry would often say, "What beautiful Grandchildren I have!" They were truly the light of his life. In 2002, Henry married Marilou Smith and became a proud "step-parent" to Bill and Sun, Marilou's parrots, whom he adored. They purchased a home in Yorkton and continued to live there together until his passing. They had plans to live out retirement visiting new places and a highlight for them was travelling to Victoria, BC by train to visit Travis. Henry spent many hours at local rinks watching his son Travis play hockey and later, his granddaughter Jillian figure skate and grandson Nicholas play hockey. As long as the weather was good and he could drive he would be there and it was a rare sight to not see Henry at a local game or competition. He and Marilou were Yorkton Terrier season ticket holders during the time his great-nephew Sheldon played for the team and attending games became a favorite pastime for both of them. He was always so proud of all of their accomplishments! In his last years, Henry suffered from multiple health problems and passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 73 years old. He was predeceased by his father; Nick, mother; Mary and brother-in-law; Albert Dubnyk. Henry leaves to cherish his memory his wife Marilou; daughter Rhonda (Keith) Sapara of Esterhazy; son Travis Ninowsky of Victoria, BC; grand children Jillian and Nicholas Sapara and Connor Ninowsky; sisters Violet Dubnyk of Yorkton and Shirley (Gordon) Halyk of Dunleath; Marilou's daughter Gay Cox and family; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 1st 2014 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Steve Rosluk officiating. Pianist, Amanda Buhler led members of the congreagtion in the singing of the hymns 'The Old Rugged Cross' 'Just As I Am', and 'Beyond the Sunset'. Granddaughter Jillian Sapara read the obituary. The interment followed in the Garden of Devotion with grandson Nicholas Sapara serving as the urnbearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
