Obituary of Frank Peter Appell

APPELL - Mr. Frank Appell of Yorkton, beloved husband of Donna Appell passed away on February 13, 2014 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. He was 72 years of age. Frank Peter Appell was born on August 13, 1941 in Grayson, Saskatchewan, a son to Chris and Doris (Striefel) Appell. He lived in Grayson until he completed his grade eleven at which time he moved to Regina and worked at Sears for 4 years. He then bought Service Master and relocated in Yorkton in 1965. He operated Service Master of Yorkton until he sold in 1984. Subsequently he gained employment at SGI as a building operator until 1998 when his diagnosis with M.S. required him to take early retirement. He and Donna then moved to Crooked Lake and enjoyed 14 years together there until his declining health required him to move into the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in 2012, where he passed away peacefully on February 13, 2014. Frank was united in marriage to Donna Pringle in July, 1964. This union was blessed with four children, Warren, Cyndy, Angie and Jason. Frank was predeceased by his parents; sister Rita; brother Alvin; daughters-in-law Marti and Linda-Lee. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Donna; son Warren (Charlene); daughter Cyndy (Kevin); daughter Angie (Chad); son Jason (Alexa); grandchildren, Russell (Jenn), Jenna (Jay), Amanda (James), Tristen, Paige, Mason, Alyssa, Connor, Jameson and Karley and great grandchildren, Maki, Brooklyn, Kyler and Jaycee. Frank is also survived by his sister Gaileen Desharnais (Ray) and brother Kenny (Roxanne) Appell, brother-in-law Eldon Daenckaert (Margaret Anne). Frank was very grateful to be a friend of Bill W's and was proud to celebrate 38 years of continued sobriety this past November. He truly learned to Live Life on Life's Terms. A Prayer Vigil was held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. The lector was Jenna Yorke. The pianist, Diana Hornung led members of St. Gerard's choir in the singing of the hymns, "Be Not Afraid", "Psalm 63", "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". Reflections and Remembrances of Frank's life were shared by Angie Smith and Warren Appell. The Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. Gerard's Church with Rev. Fr. Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. Serving as cross bearer was Connor Appell. The pianist, Lorraine Lysak led St. Gerard's choir in the singing of the hymns, "This Day God Gives Me", "Psalm 23", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Peace is Flowing Like A River", "Song of The Angels" and "How Great Thou Art". The lectors were Jenna Yorke and Giselle Daenckaert. The gift bearers were Paige Mundt and Mason Appell. Serving as memorial book attendant was Jameson Igarta. The interment took place at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Grayson with Warren Appell, Jason Appell, Russell Godin, Tristen Mundt, Kevin Mundt and Chad Smith serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Frank's life may be made to the MS Society or the Activity Department at Yorkton & District Nursing Home.
