Obituary of Mary Chepil

Mary Chepil was born on March 11, 1926 in the Hamton district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Metro and Helen (Nee Zaharia) Prokopetz. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Stawchan School. On November 2, 1947 she was united in marriage to Alex Chepil at Yorkton. The couple resided in the Rhein district until the fall of 1966, when they moved into Yorkton. Mary and Alex continued to farm until their retirement in September of 1979. In addition to raising their family, Mary also helped alongside Alex in all aspects of the farm, she tended a large garden and enjoyed a bountiful harvest of vegetables every fall. She greatly enjoyed the company of others and the many family gatherings that took place over the years. She had been a faithful member of the Boychuk Church while on the farm and later the parish of Holy Transfiguration during their time in Yorkton. Following the death of Alex in February of 1989, Mary continued to maintain her independence until becoming a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in May of 2002, where she had resided until her passing on January 19th. She was 87 years of age. Besides her husband Alex, Mary was predeceased by her sister Polly; her brother Peter; brother-in-law Fred; and son-in-law Robert. She leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, her daughter Dianne Fulton of Lethbridge, AB; son Ken (Jacki) Chepil of Yorkton; and son Leonard (Kaylynn) Chepil of Chilliwack, BC; grandchildren: Trevor (Shannon) Fulton, Regan (April) Chepil, Amber Chepil (Jason Sweezey), and Jennifer, Kaylee & Lara Chepil; great grandchildren: Ashley & Taylor Fulton, Brett & Violet Chepil & Colter Chepil; one brother, John (Shirley) Prokopetz of Yorkton; and a sister, Elsie (Joe) Ratushniak of Lynn Lake, MB, and their families.
