BALYSKY - Mr. Walter Balysky of Yorkton, beloved husband of Olga Balysky (nee Jaworski), passed away peacefully January 13, 2014 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 85 years. Walter (Ladyk) Balysky was born on April 27, 1928 in Glen Elder, Saskatchewan to Mike and Lena Balysky. He had five sisters and five brothers. Walter attended Porcupine School north of Danbury. On June 16, 1951, Walter married Olga Jaworski of Weekes, Saskatchewan. During his lifetime, Walter worked in road construction, bush clearing and in the sawmill. Walter was also employed in various positions such as Assistant Grain Buyer for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, construction worker at Sherritt Gordon Mine in Lynn Lake, mechanic at Powell Motors in Swan River, grader operator for the R.M. of Livingstone, owner of a garage and bulk dealership in Arran which he operated for 17 years and finally a mechanic for the Yorkdale School Unit garage in Yorkton for 9 years, which is the position he retired from. Walter, Olga and their family lived in many locations throughout the years; some places being Swan River, Arran and finally settling in Yorkton. In December 2010, Walter and Olga moved to Fairview Arms Seniors Complex and in October 2013, Walter took up residence in the Nursing Home. Walter enjoyed hobbies such as golfing, curling, woodworking, playing aggravation and cards and spending time at the cabin. Family and friends were very important to Walter and he loved socializing with them. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Olga; five children - Vernon (Linda) Balysky and family Randall (Carrie, Chase, Paige), Allison, Amber (Riley); Doreen (Alvin) Makuch; Marv (Kathy) Balysky and family Michael, David, Matthew, Daniel; Beverly (Ken) Witow and family Kyle (Christine), Jessie (Stephanie); Lori (Larry) Popoff and family Leanne (Lance), Becky (Braden); former daughter-in-law Pat Balysky; sisters Jennie Folwark, Elizabeth Boyko and Anne Zubko; sisters-in-law Olga Balysky, Mary Balysky and Rose Zacharias and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Walter was predeceased by his brothers Paul Balysky, John Balysky, Steve Balysky, Pete Balysky and Bill Balysky and sisters Olga Lisoway and Mary Zinchuk. A Service of Comfort was held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Jen Dresser officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler led St. Andrew's choir and congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "In The Garden". The scripture readers were Allison Cyhla, Leanne Popoff and Becky Popoff. Reflections and Remembrances of Walter's life were shared by Doreen Makuch, Beverly Witow and Elaine Senga. Leanne Popoff, Allison Cyhla, Matthew Balysky, Becky Popoff, Amber Cyhla, and Daniel Balysky served as honorary pallbearers. All who knew and loved Walter were also considered as honorary pallbearers. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Randall Balysky, Kyle Witow, Michael Balysky, Lance Delaurier, Shane Senga, Jessie Witow, David Balysky and Braden Mercier serving as the pallbearers. Memorials in Walter's name may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
