Obituary of Edward Oystreck

OYSTRECK - Edward Oystreck of Melville, beloved husband of Helen Oystreck entered his eternal rest on Sunday, January 12th, 2014 at the age of 76 years. Edward was born on July 4, 1937 on the family farm in the Rhein district of Saskatchewan, a son to Thomas and Martha (nee Achtemichuk) Oystreck. Edward grew up on the family farm and attended Vionne School. After completing his education he helped his parents with the farm, and in July 1956 Edward hired on with the Canadian National Railway in Kamsack, SK. He was posted to a wide range of locations during the early part of his CNR career ultimately ending up in Melville, SK. For the first 2 years of his CNR career Edward was laid off during the winters and worked as a surveyor with Davidson Engineering out of Yorkton, SK. On June 5, 1965, Edward married Helen Topolnisky in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and was blessed with a son, Darren Oystreck. Edward continued working with the CNR as an engineer until his retirement on December 17, 1993. Edward enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, curling, and playing cribbage with the guys. Due to health issues Edward became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home. Predeceased by his parents, brother: Metro Oystreck, sisters: Mary Allin and Janice Krochak. Edward leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife: Helen Oystreck; son: Darren Oystreck married to Leah Oystreck (nee Nienaber) and their children, Samuel, Amani and Lyla; brother: Mike (Diane) Oystreck (nee Homenchuk); brothers-in-law: Bruce Allin and Lorne Krochak; sisters: Lorraine Rudnisky and Effie Oystreck as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayer Services were held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Melville with Very Reverend Mel Slashinsky officiating. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton officiated by Very Reverend Mel Slashinsky. Cantor Mr. William Kozey and members of the church choir led in the responciess. The cross bearer was Samuel Oystreck and the banner bearerswere Riley Neumann and Tyson Neumann. Honorary bearers were everyone who knew and loved Edward. The interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Willie Neumann, Mike Oystreck, Gordon Minken, Bill Fofonoff, Alex Greschuk and Dale Wotherspoon as the casket bearers. Arrangements were by bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.
